An Exercise In Nonsense

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

I had heard that this movie had rave reviews. It's one of the saddest and most brutal portrayals of Africans and Africa I've ever seen.What a mess; between the poor writing and the poor acting, it seemed like the longest 2 hours of my life. There appears to be no plot; other than people are continuously getting killed in vivid technicolor. The good guy's kill the bad guys; then, the bad guys kill the good guys; and then, the bad guys kill the bad guys.The propaganda angle in this movie is pretty blatant; with statements like "they're at the Chinese funded hospital" instead of "they're at the hospital". The original script for this movie must have been "enhanced" by CCP hardliners within the Chinese government before they decided to shoot the movie.As for the abundant 10/10's I'm seeing on this site ... I'll assume that they're employees of the production company, CCP hardliners or friends of the actors.

WOLF WARRIOR 2 is an unashamed action flick for those who like non-stop visual excitement and mayhem. While I enjoyed the mid-budget predecessor, this film is a whole new ball game, big enough to be China's biggest cinematic hit of the year, and refreshingly old-school; you feel like you're watching a 1980s blow-'em-up movie like RAMBO 3 at times. The setting is a made-up African country, where former special ops soldier Wu Jing is now disgraced and working privately. When a rebel army take over the country, he agrees to lead a one-man rescue mission to save friends and the Chinese trapped within. This is one of the best films I've watched from the Chinese mainland. The propaganda is still there, and there's even some flag-waving at times, but the emphasis is on huge action set-pieces which mix together non-stop explosions and brutal fight scenes to fantastic effect. Wu Jing excels both as the leading man and director, coming up with action which is still fresh and exciting in a similar way to THE RAID 2. There's a sense of drive and momentum that sees this through from beginning to end. The film is heavily reliant on CGI for effect and it's pretty cheesy at times, but perfectly acceptable.My favourite sequence is the breakneck fifteen minutes between Wu Jing driving his jeep through the hospital wall (!) up until the bit where he crashes it into the plague pit. Watch out for hand to hand combat, lots of melodrama, and situations which spiral out of control from the word go. The amount of collateral damage is insane, and that tank battle takes things to new levels. Frank Grillo isn't quite up to the calibre of Scott Adkins but still good as the comic book villain, and watch out for the hilarious Russian strongman. WOLF WARRIOR 2 is a good example of everything I want from a movie, and to criticise it would just be redundant.

Watched over 100s of war/action movies on Bollywood/Indian cinema, including Hollywood/rest of world cinema.But this is marvellous piece of attraction, for viewers who love action/war (specially who have seen/unsueen war/riots kind of situations.. (PERSONALLY)I would await if Part 3 of this sequel will as well reelase in India.

A lot of people here don't seem to like this movie based on its nationalistic themes. Yes it is nationalistic, but no more than Independence Day or Saving Private Ryan. It's just a new brand of nationalism that were not accustomed to seeing. Take that away, and it's a well-made action movie. No one said that this is like Farewell My Concubine. The overall effects are excellent, except that the blood looks too fake (CGI). There are a few ''corny'' parts, and it does lack character depth, but taken solely as an action/war movie, it's very good and entertaining - and no, it's not the greatest film China has ever made.. Don't see this expecting a grandiose spectacle like Hero or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and you won't be disappointed.
