This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
I hadn't even heard of this movie prior to coming to find it by sheer random luck. Well, that might be because I hardly keep up with the movies that Antonio Bandera makes. That being said, don't get me wrong, he does make the occasional good movie every now and again. So I decided to sit down and watch "Gun Shy".And I am glad that I did, because this actually turned out to be a rather entertaining movie.I will actually go as far as saying that this is one of the best movies that Antonio Bandera has made in a long time. It was really nice to see him in a movie such as this, because he seemed to fit into the character like a hand in a glove."Gun Shy" was driven by a good story and was filled with interesting characters. And they had a fairly good cast together here for bringing the various characters to life on the screen. The movie definitely had an adequate amount of comedy and action, which made for a good cocktail."Gun Shy" is well-worth the time and effort. So if you haven't already seen it, do so if you get the chance.
Ok so I quite like B movies and movies done on tight budgets. But boy this is really bad. The script is poor, acting worse still, set pieces... grim. It plays out just like a very cheap cable TV movie or high school play. Definitely the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. I hadnt realised just how bad Antonio is at acting. Seems like many his skills came from the skills of the editor in his previous films if this is anything to go by.
Fun fact is that give or take a few days I am the same age as Banderas.I know exactly what it means to be dragged off on holiday to someplace where its cold in July when all I want is to stay in my chair. I love my chair. When you are a has been or in my case a never been, these things are important.Anyway back to the film. I loved it.Firstly - it is very funny, was very clever and the cast clearly loved making it. Simon West has a real way with actors and always gets the best out of them.Secondly - it does not take itself too seriously. If I got conned into seeing yet another star trek or star wars or harry potter film where the actors earnestly deliver their lines with all the pomposity of a ham reciting a scene out of Macbeth, I swear my sternum is going to leap out of my back and gorge my eyes out.Thirdly - this is going to be a cult film. Do yourself a favour, watch it a few times with that in mind, and in a few years time you can say - yeah - course it got panned at the time but I knew it was going to be a cult film...So 10/10 - not because its a perfect film, but because its good despite the handicaps that a director has in making such a film. No one could have done better.
Certainly no worse than so many others and I am not understanding the bad reviews. The acting was intentionally bad as lots of comedies and TV shows do( eg, Friends TV show had absolutely horrible acting, but all of them were good. Yet, everyone loved it). It's a one-time-watch comedy with simple plot and quite a number of funny moments. I enjoyed it!
