If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

I liked it a lot, except for the last scene which was an attempt from the film maker to throw in a last second plot twist that must have been intended be a guaranteed "home-run" but failed to do so. If anything it ruins the whole narrative of the movie up to then, and could have easily been avoided by just being a tad more linear than going for the "unexpected" alternative. The last scene really serves to make the movie "shoot itself in both feet" and brings everything down. Which is sad, as that scene isn't even necessary to the film or sequence of events. Also I found the movie lacked a bit of "depth", its too superficial. Great potential but ultimately a flop of sorts, I don't recommend it, there are plenty other more awesome movies out there.

Everything in the movie was good untill the last 10 to 15 minutes of the movie. Going by the end part of the movie, this movie does not make sense at all. In one scene captain colleen tells colter that there was a train bombing at 7.30 in the morning and he should prevent the further attacks which are going to happen. But at the end of the movie we hear someone telling to Dr. Rutledge that there was an attempt to blow up the train at 7.30 am but the attack failed. We know that colter saves the train from bomb explosion in source code but in the reality world indeed there was a train bomb explosion at 7.30 am and how did it turned as failed attack in real world by end of the movie. Also how can colter gets into the body of Sean permanently and enter real world from source code, whiles his body is still in the Life support and his mind is still active. Also at point we see colleen terminating the life support of Colter but at the end we see that his mind is still active and his body is still in life support. There are too many flaws in the movie which gets exposed in the last 10 to 15 minutes of the movie.

"Source Code" tells the story of a soldier, who awakens in a strange structure and is sent into parallel realities by a misterious army unit he hasn't heard before. They tell him, that his task is to prevent a terrorist attack on Chicago, in which millions of innocent people could be at risk. As time goes by, he notices, that he doesn't get all the information and that this program could implie a lot more than he originally thought. The film is overall very well done. It managaes to show the same scenery time and again without getting boring or become repetitive. There's an element of mystery and an element of action that I like really much. The weak part of the movie however is the sci-fi background of the plot. Where other films present believable conditions, this one really only has a wider thought of what technology could be used to achieve what the film depicts. That way the believability of the movie gets bent pretty much and in the end it feels a bit like some of the usual phrases of love and positivity have been pressed into a Sci-Fi plot. All in all this is a great realization nonetheless. It is based on some interesting thoughts, presents a thrilling plot and a lot of mysteries and is by far on the better end of technology romances.

Characters and acting: First of all, Jake Gyllenhaal has proved himself. He's great in the role. Everyone else if fine. There isn't much character motivation or development, but characters are likable or understandable. There isn't much emotion though, except for a touching scene that (minor spoilers) involves a conversation between a character and his/her father.Story and dialogue: The story is what makes this movie. It's awesome and original. Despite some plot holes near the third act. The dialogue is fine, but sometimes there is too much exposition or the lines aren't exactly 'human'.Editing and pacing: Nothing spectacular or outstanding, but it does the job well. Let's say you wouldn't notice it anything good or bad.Cinematography and effects: Some really nice shots in this movie, but others are lacking. With some beautiful wide shots, but on the other hand some dark, barely visible shots. The effects aren't the best, but the movie doesn't rely on them, only uses them when necessary, they are fine for the size this movie has.Deeper meaning or motives/themes: Barely any, perhaps something that has to do with free will, or being human, but that's not really addressed.Tone: Mysterious, suspenseful.Emotional response: I was invested and excited. Wanted to know where the story would go. Rating: Source Code is an above average movie to watch on an evening with friends. Don't expect a great movie but a fun movie. 7/10
