There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

I really don't like ANY of the Tinkerbell movies to be honest. This first one especially, is incredibly formulaic, and dull and outright obnoxious. I didn't care at all for the characters, and the "Be happy with what you have, but don't be afraid to take a further", message is not a good one. I personally think that people should ALWAYS be happy with what they have, and not do anything to change it.Also, the rules of magic are extremely inconsistent. The fairies are in their respective roles, such as garden fairy, light fairy, water fairy and animal fairy; but the light fairy can some how make rainbows, which is not a cause of the sun at all. Not to mention the fact that they can also CREATE sunshine and water, even though is was established earlier they couldn't.While I like the background designs, the voice talent and the animation, it does NOTHING to save this TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE movie. The Tinkerbell franchise always paint the world as a simple, black and white cotton candy place, IS THE WORST MESSAGE IN THE WORLD. So I suggest skipping this movie.

I guess I didn't like this as much as most people, but it's still a good movie. This is notable in marking the end of the direct to video Disney sequels everyone was complaining about to make room for the Tinker Bell movies. I think they were actually made by the same studio, but these do seem to be a step up from them. This movie actually tells us about Tinker Bell's name. I never thought of her as an actual tinkerer. In this movie, she tries her hand at various other things besides tinkering. There's some pretty creative ideas here.I just like the idea of the tulips running around with their little legs. I actually find the ending to be quite unique. It turns out that her special talent was tinkering all the time. I mean, that's pretty original for a kid's movie. She tried to do other things, but it turns out she was best at the thing she was originally supposed to do. That is a pretty interesting message for a movie. There's some pretty amusing moments in here and while not a Disney classic, certainly not bad at all. I like when they use all the objects at the end. ***

Cute & sparkly ... though somewhat disappointing -- Should have been a lot better ... I really looked forward to this movie and was disappointed. I have been wanting to see a show about the Disney Faeries ever since I first saw the toys. I was hoping for a stronger storyline, and more Fairy characters. I wanted to see the first wave of Disney Fairies like Bess and Rani (my favorites) and others like Fira, Beck, etc ... I also wanted to see them alongside the newer ones like Silvermist and Vidia, Iridessa, Fawn and the others. It was disappointing that it only had the newer ones, except for Tinkerbell. And as it was Tinkerbell's first movie showing how she was born and first arrived in Pixie Hollow, the first lot of Disney Fairies knew her before the newer ones, and in the end of the movie, she found the owner of the music box, which I suspected would be Wendy ... but this again was weird as when I read Tinkerbell's mini book, it said "Dinsy Fairies" is set after Peter Pan ... So it seems to be the "prequel" thing like Star Wars, Eragon, Shannara, Mists of Avalon and a lot of other fantasy series these days starting with one storyline, then doing a "new" storyline set previous to the first one ... (Though nothing was said to that effect) I certainly hope they do another movie (or series) with the first Disney Fairies as well as the newer ones - and that it is superior to this one. Tink looked way better when they did the first wave of Fairies also. It also didn't seem very like Tinkerbell to me... too nice, if you see the Otiginal Pater Pan, Tink has a lot more spunk.I liked Silvermist a lot (even when I saw her on a site before I saw the movie.) She was very beautiful. Her (and Vidia) were the ones that looked the best out of all of them, but sadly, in the movie Silvermist was portrayed as a dope. She looked very nice, but her character was very flat. Also, I hated how they did Vidia here. I read her mini book and while she doesn't isn't a nice Fairy, she certainly was not vindictive, nasty or cruel and I was hoping to see more character depth, but sadly, not a jot. To me, when I read her book, Vidia seemed to be a loner and misunderstood and typical of Disney, was characterized badly in the movie. (Even when it was a Disney book?...)And those were not the only disappointments for me. The animation threw me as I think for this movie, traditional line drawings would have been better, mixed with CGI for the surrounding scenery and the sparkles, but the Fairies did not look as beautiful and spectacular as they did in previous animation drawings I had seen of them. However, that aside, praises I will give this movie is the special effects of the pixie dust and sparkles, fairies flying the glow when Queen Clarion appeared and when Tink first arrived and the hammer glowed, were beautiful and the scenery looked lovely. I loved the scene where Tink fixed the music box, finding her rare talent of fixing things. It was great that she got to go to the mainland and prove herself. And I liked the message to be proud of who you are, even if one does not think they are special. This is a parable for a child or a person who is overweight, different, or perhaps not good at something like math or science, to know that there is something special that they can do which is unique to them and something they can do well. I was treated very badly at school because I was different and like Tink, felt upset a lot of the time. However ... Like Tink I found I had special talents too ... I found that I love to write, and I have a deep empathy with people and like to help people. However, next time I will not be so trusting and hire a movie at the video shop before I buy it! (Which is what I usually do) ... Goes to show, you can't trust a DVD by its cover... Even if it is Green & Sparkly!

Saw this movie today (9/26/08) with my young nieces at a special El Capitan Theatre preview in Los Angeles. We were all delighted by Tink's excellent backstory, the ingenious story and the handsomely rendered 3-D animation. Cast is uniformly excellent, including Lucy Liu, Kristen Chenoweth and Anjelica Houston. This was much better than some of the theatrically released Disney animated films I've seen (notably "Atlantis"), making it among the best of the Mouse's direct-to-video titles. Well worth checking out with your kids, but don't be surprised if you find a tear in your own eye at the conclusion of this delightful surprise.
