Mild-mannered Paul Blart has always had huge dreams of becoming a State Trooper. Until then, he patrols the local mall as a security guard. With his closely cropped moustache, personal transporter and gung-ho attitude, only Blart seems to take his job seriously. All that changes when a team of thugs raids the mall and takes hostages. Untrained, unarmed and a super-size target, Blart has to become a real cop to save the day.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

The film may be flawed, but its message is not.

Not that funny, but strangely endearing. Kevin James is likeable, even if the premise is ridiculous, the plot is predictable and the supporting cast could have been played by cardboard cut-outs. This ain't no Die Hard.

This would have to be one of most un-comedic movies I've ever seen. Basically this is nothing more than an updated version of any Marx Bros movie, where you have a ridiculous premise full of equally ridiculous sight gags. Kevin James is Paul Blart, a shopping mall cop who rides a ridiculous Segway and who takes his job, or "shopper safety" as he calls it, a little too seriously. While his colleagues simply see it as a job where you punch in and punch out, (like all mall security guards do), Blart takes it up several notches to an area bordering on pointlessness where every random meaningless mall incident becomes a do or die mission. Naturally there's the usual ho-hum jokes-du-jour throughout; one where he pulls over an elderly man on one of those reprehensible mobility scooters for driving recklessly amongst shoppers. The man couldn't have cared less and drives off with Blart being dragged along the floor behind him. I'm not sure where the joke is, but it's supposed to be funny. Next he gets in a punch-up with 2 legged hippo in Victoria's Secret and she punches the stuffing out of him. If this were anywhere else but America I could see her probably getting away with it, but in a court-happy country like the U.S, I highly doubt it. Judge Judy would be all over it like flies on a turd. I don't remember too much after this as it was around this point that I started to really lose interest. I think there's some feeble attempt at a story when the mall is subject to a heist where they are after credit card codes or something, Paul Blart somehow manages to save the day, gets married and I'm counting the minutes of my life that have been lost forever. I was wondering when this was going to ever get funny and it simply never did. I get that comedy is subjective but normally you'd expect to find some semblance of comedy within a movie that's supposed to be funny, even if you as an individual don't happen to find everything funny. If you enjoy watching a bumbling fool getting himself into poorly scripted situations and unfunny situations, then you'll enjoy this. If you want to have a proper laugh, this movie is a waste of time.

"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" from 2009 stars Kevin James, Jayma Mays, Shirley Knight, Bobby Cannavale, and Keir O'Donnell.Paul Blart works for mall security after not making it to the police academy. He acts as if he's guarding the White House, stopping people in motorized carts for infractions, reporting in even though his boss asks who it is, and going a little overboard in his handling of a new trainee. He hasn't dated since his green card marriage blew up, but he sees a young woman at one of the kiosks, Amy (Jayma Mays) and falls head over heels. After he makes a complete fool of himself at a bar, she seems less friendly. When a gang announces the mall is closing early and starts an organized takeover and captures hostages, including Amy, Paul is fooling around with a guitar and singing in one of the stores. Therefore when the mall is locked, he's stuck in the mall. And it falls to him to do something about the robbery and the danger to the hostages.Normally the last thing I watch is films like this. These past two weeks I've seen two. It's since the election. I have needed films to numb my mind. Kevin James makes me laugh with his slapstick and cluelessness, so it was fine. It's predictable, it's funny in spots, it seems to go on longer than necessary, but by far it is not the worst thing I've ever seen. And for a change with today's comedy, it didn't have vulgar jokes. This last week I watched Netflix's True Memoirs of an International Assassin, also with Kevin James, to give you an idea of what all the divisiveness and hate of this election has done to me.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop is a comedy, written by Steve Carr on January 16th, 2009, centered around an everyday, single father who is struggling to raise his daughter. Around the time of Blart's struggles (no wife, hypoglycemia, failing policeman test), this unlikely hero takes extreme measures to show that this mall is focused on the safety of the customers. Though very few workers at this mall aren't worried with their careers. Paul Blart continues to identify himself as a serious security guard when the mall is taken over by a seemingly harmless colleagues of his and a group of this young colleague's little helpers. Paul Blart quickly jumps into action the moment he realizes that his once endearing colleague has taken his daughter and potential girlfriend hostage showing how h always strives to be the hero he in his heart. This comedy is intended to give the audience a laugh to remember. Like movies such as Pitch Perfect, Steve Carr continuously creates jokes that revolve around Blart's weight and the fact that he needs sugar almost every hour. Apart from the insulting jokes, there is the question about language. Fortunately, parents are able to relax because the language is simply mild. There is only one curse word throughout the entire set, but the movie also settles to using God's name in vain. These sets of words are said to be used during one of the violent scenes. The violent scenes go as far as using stuffed animals to hit, guns in hopes of shooting, and threats to scare the main characters into backing down. IN addition to violent scenes, there are only a few scenes involving sexuality. Paul Blart is seen kissing his new girlfriend after having her life for only a couple seconds, bug any other idea of romantic things are briefly shown by Blart making googly eyes at the girl he finds beautiful and another scene that includes a longer showing of two girls fighting in Victoria Secret. The fight within Victoria Secret does include a brief peek at one of the lady's bras but nothing more is shown.Through all of the random scenes that seem to be expressed throughout Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Carr does come to the idea of never doubting yourself. Every character within this eventful movie seems to see Blart as the odd man out until the day that he saves the mall and gets the girl of his dreams. While viewing this movie myself, I had quite a few laughs but never truly appreciated the movie until I found the value of the message. Usually movies are less dramatic in selling the message to you, but the presentation was quite entertaining in the end. Overall, I would definitely recommend this movie for a family night in with the children but not for a first date sort of thing. I hope that everyone takes the same amount of laughs away as I did, and just remember to have a completely open mind while viewing this comedic movie.
