This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

The very first minutes are interesting, but soon the movie shows that it will be a waste of time and money. Why the scenario looks like a theatre stage? Why does Theseus fight like martial artists or Jedi knights? What the hell are those gods' bizarre golden helmets? Why it is so hard for Hollywood making films about Greek Mythology, which is much more interesting than their average action movie crap screenplays (a serious epic about Titanomachy could be awesome!)? Indeed, the film is entirely based in assumptions contrary to basic Greek mythology traits, such as the idea that the god may not interfere in human lives. As a matter of fact, there are obvious Christian or modern Western values mobilizing characters instead of ancient Greek ones. The films has many serious mistakes and just copy what all the other empty blockbusters do: excessive slow motions, generic motivation speeches, video game ultra- violence.

Really, just honestly not my thing. Not sure what I was expecting, but I wasn't let down, or pleasantly surprised, either one.Being a Greek Mythology aficionado, I was hoping for more from this movie and just didn't get it.The only redeeming quality of this movie, for me, was the over-the-top, carnage. That made it worth agonizing through, but that's about all.If you don't mind a slow pace, mediocre (at best) acting and you're not expecting a lot, you might enjoy it.

I saw the poster and DVD cover for this mythical movie many times, the title made it obvious what the plot would involve, it had an average rating from critics, but that didn't stop me watching it, from director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, Mirror Mirror). Basically ages after the Greek Gods won their battle against the Titans, imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirsting for revenge, but a new evil threatens the land, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) is mad with power and has declared war on humanity. Hyperion's army are amassed of bloodthirsty soldiers he has personally disfigured, like he is, he is in search of the legendary weapon of unimaginable power, the Epirus Bow, forged in the heavens by Ares, whoever possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, and bring a rain of destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. The Gods, aka the "immortals", have ancient laws that dictate they must not intervene with the conflicts of man, they remain powerless to stop Hyperion, so Zeus (Luke Evans) secretly chooses a peasant named Theseus (Man of Steel's Henry Cavill) to come forth as the only hope for humanity from Hyperion and his army. Theseus rallies a band of fellow outsiders, including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff), the leading hero will be the one to lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and the Gods vanish into legend, of course in the end Hyperion is defeated in the final battle, and Theseus sacrifices himself and is transported to Olympus with the Gods. Also starring John Hurt as Old Man, Isabel Lucas as Athena, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Joseph Morgan as Lysander, Peter Stebbings as Helios, Stephen McHattie as Cassander, Daniel Sharman as Ares, Steve Byers as Heracles, Romano Orzari as Icarus, Corey Sevier as Apollo and Mark Margolis as The New Priest. Cavill proves himself a good lead a few years before becoming Superman, Rourke is a good choice for the beefed up villain, and supporting cast members like Hurt and Evans get their moments too, the special effects are well done, and most of the fight sequences are engaging enough, especially being bloody, but it is a fairly predictable tale of the threat to the Gods and humans of ancient Greece, I admit I did get slightly bored at times, but overall it's not such a bad action fantasy. Okay!

I wasn't expecting much from this film to begin with, but that is like an understatement in front of what followed.Up until the middle it wasn't that bad.It was of course a sad alteration from the original mythology but at least it was something you could accept....with difficulty but still....Why must they put in every movie based on Hellenic history and mythology characters that look like gay superstars? The outfits of the gods looked like the surrounding of a ferrero roche chocolate and their hats/helmets were completely ridiculous. They looked like true blood fairies. The visual effects could have been better but they were quite nice in the battle between gods and burned titans. It was weird though cause in the cage there were only a handful of titans but after the gods' appearance they increased by 30 in the number. They kept brutalizing them with no end.I don't understand why would someone alter the beautiful mythology so much.Black-Asian oracles, black soldiers in ancient Greece, with counselors dressed up like women, armors that look plastic,a huge wall in the middle of nowhere, hyenas, houses like child's construction,Theseus the peasant, power bows hidden in rocks only to be destroyed after 6 shots like it was nothing,a father of the gods always with a look of distress on his face like he was struggling with diarrhea,a pre battle speech that sounds less epic and important than a the last fart of a dying old man and at the end?.......a thousand titans fighting mid-air with Theseus the whore's son, along with a thousand gods of Olympus(along with all those who died right in the previous scene).A big "all for nothing" movie,an insult to Hellenic mythology and at the very best,a poor alternation-plot.If it wasn't for those good combat scenes towards the middle and some actors' good acting I wouldn't even give it those 3 stars....I wish a day comes when stories like these will be brought to the big screen with respect and talent, like in the 300 Spartans. This was like "Troy" all over again but without the good parts with Achilleas.
