It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

To be honest, I have completely forgotten about this movie, in two ways, I forgot what it was about, and that it even exists.Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry met Lloyd is a sad excuse to cash in on the very highly successful and well liked Dumb and Dumber. I applaud Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey for not appearing or even involving themselves with this movie in the slightest sense. This is one movie I liked the first time I saw it, and then when I watched it again, it was so stupid, and I have never watched it again, in effect, I have only watched this movie exactly twice, and that is far too many. heck, even one viewing is far too many viewing.

The prequel to the 1994 comedy hit Dumb & Dumber is set in 1986 when Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas (Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen) were in high school. Due to their tremendously stupid behaviour they are put in a special education class that the school's principal Collins (Eugene Levy) has created in order to embezzle the money meant for advancing the special students' rights. The shady actions of the principal are being investigated by a smart but good-looking student named Jessica (Rachel Nichols), who also evokes feelings in both Harry and Lloyd. As Dumb and Dumberer is a prequel, it's only natural that neither Jim Carrey nor Jeff Daniels of the original movie reprises their roles. Instead, Richardson and Olsen try to emulate the original actors' styles, but since they haven't got the natural aura of comedy like Carrey and Daniels do, the result is just painfully unfunny. Both protagonists, especially Harry, are essentially retards whose constant yelling and bantering is nothing but irritating. Olsen's attempts of capturing Carrey's trademark facial expressions are probably the best thing about the performances, but that is a very, very faint praise. One can only wonder how a talented supporting actor like Luis Guzmán ended up in a movie like this.As opposed to the road trip theme of Dumb & Dumber, the jokes in the prequel are largely based on tired high school stereotypes, so it must have been difficult to come up with anything we haven't already seen many times, if the writers ever even tried to achieve anything that ambitious. Plenty of sex jokes and toilet humour are also present, and while one gross-out scene actually is funny, the premise of the joke is essentially recycled from the first movie, raising even more questions about the point of this movie's existence. In addition, the film comes across as mocking and mean-spirited towards real-life special education students. As not even the blooper reel over the end credits is funny, Dumb and Dumberer seriously cannot be recommended to anyone but the most undemanding of comedy fans, if even them. The rest of us should just avoid it altogether.

This movie is hilarious. Yes, it's goofy, immature humor, but it's done so well in this film. If you like anything that Will Ferrell or Adam Sandler does, then you'll love this movie. The constant subtle idiocy is what makes this film great. The two main actors that play Harry and Lloyd are perfect for their roles. They work amazingly together and they are great younger versions of the original two actors from the first film. I personally liked this one better than the original. this movie does a nice job of showing just how Harry and Lloyd met and became the ultimate duo that you know from the original. I actually wouldn't mind seeing another film made to make this a trilogy. Don't listen to the people that say this movie is dumb and pointless. See it for yourself and then make your decision.

Once there were Laurel & Hardy. Then Abbott & Costello brought the voice to it. After that, Bob Hope & Bing Crosby came to somewhat change the formula with singing and a bit of sexuality. But when Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis broke up at the end of the 1950s it was the end of an era. The hole during the 1960s, 1970s and the 1980s was filled by names like Eric Morecambe & Ernie Wise (nice gents from the British side), Terence Hill & Bud Spencer (more popular in Italian spaghetti western movies), Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau, Tim Conway & Don Knotts, and finally Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor. After that.. Hmmm.. There are no more memorable loyal 100 % comically comic duets anymore. All what you'd have is loud Action/comedy stuff (Lethal Weapon, Men in Black, Bad Boys or sorrowfully Rush Hour!). Or teen garbage with tons of silliness (BASEketball, Dude Where's My Car..). Or rare, and I mean RARE, good decent stand alone examples (My Fellow Americans, Analyze This..). So, the Comic Buddy-movie has become lost. And since the 1980s' end, I think we're living the un-golden age of it ! According to that, let's review my list for their worst or rather the worst of the worst since there is no good ones in the first place ! : 10_Dumb & Dumber (1994) : too stupid, too repulsive, and too overrated to too provocative extent !09_City Heat (1984) : disappointment at its best. I mean Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, Blake Edwards.. How can anything get wrong with them together ? But it did! The main disappointing matter is that the buddy-thing isn't here at all, since the 2 leads share the screen for less than 5 minutes. It's like watching many story lines meets forcedly under the name, just the name, of Buddy-action comedy. In another word : this is a hoax !08_Rush Hour (1998) : well, I love Jackie, there is no doubt about that, but who can stand Chris Tucker; while being the first name of the poster, earning more than a cinema legend like Chan !! If you can bear the way he delivers ANYTHING in this movie, then you're like that character from (The World is Not Enough) yes, the guy who feels nothing !07_Nothing to Lose (1997) : No, there is.. My time in the front of this !06_Turner & Hooch (1989) : somehow the start of the ominous downfall. It began with changing partners in horrible ways (the next step : Whoopi Goldberg teams up with a dinosaur in Theodore Rex !). I can't forget that dog's white sticky drool UGH.. Can you think of a more disgusting partner !05_Hollywood Homicide (2003) : I got simple equation for you : Josh Hartnett + comedy = Flop. I have nothing more.. So this movie !04_Taxi (2004) : the real depressing thing is that the 2 leads are funny indeed. But their movie isn't ! It's nice action, with dry humor. And it kills me to watch (Ann-Margaret) in a movie like this ! Simply this buddy-comedy can't be my buddy ! 03_Fled (1996) : a remake of (The Defiant Ones) ? Laurence Fishburne in comic scenes ?!, Stephen Baldwin in a movie ?!!! Was it a spoof of similar movies ? No, it's bad spoof of itself. I'll never forget a line was said by one of the evil characters while menacing someone "I'll make you wear your a** as a hat !" what was that anyway ??! It'll keep you wondering (about it, so the movie) what was that anyway ??!02_National Security (2003) : Was there anything new ? Or entertaining ? Was it the comedy, the action, anything ?! I couldn't find a single THING. There wasn't even chemistry between the 2 leads. It's a special case of having nothing special. I felt it was a soda pop's can of a movie, and it was tasteless as well. I don't think that we'll see a part 2 of this one (or will we ?!).01_Dumb & Dumberer : When Harry Met Lloyd (2003) : this is the exploitive, hasty and so outrageously silly Hollywood at its frankest examples. And this is the buddy-comedy at its suicide. Ahhh. When will I be able to make a list for the best 10 buddy-comedies of for instance the 2000s ? Or rather to see a respectable one again ?!
