It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Eraser was a return to form for action star Arnold in Eraser, a box office hit and his best action movie since Total Recall. Eraser is big budget 90's action with an A list cast, high tech weapons, a fast pace and packed with action. James Caan is an excellent villain and Vanessa Williams is hot to trot as the damsel in distress. The stuntwork and action was done well and the film as a whole is pretty tight and well made with a plot twist here and there as well as a little comic relief. Eraser is a pretty good choice for an evening's entertainment and a good 90's action movie.

Well, you could do a lot worse than "Eraser", but it's not the best of Arnold's movies, or even his '90s output. There are some decent action scenes, but the brake pedal gets stomped in between. For all of his outlandish stunts, this is a surprisingly long movie. It's the supporting cast (James Caan, Robert Pastorelli, and the stunning Vanessa Williams) that make it as good as it is.Although more CGI crocs couldn't have hurt.6/10

Usually i don't watch Schwarzy movies because it's dumb (but well done) action-violence flicks punctuated by his funny (silly) lines, except if the story is particularly original (like terminator, true lies).... Here, it's not the case as i understand that his (really simple) job is to give new papers and address to protected witness! Beyond, i don't understand anything and especially why dealing arms with a senator leads to such erasing!! Honestly i picked this movie for his witness, the cute Vanessa Williams. Caan is also good as the usual bastard and i'm amazed by such technology! My reaction to this high-tech is to know if it's real or not: in France, for example, in no way, our administration is as advanced as what is shown in the movie! At the end, it's not all bad but taken as a whole, it's however a bit boring for me, particularly flawed by a complicated story!

Eraser (1996): Dir: Chuck Russell / Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vanessa Williams, James Caan, Robert Pasterelli, James Coburn: Arnold Schwarzenegger plays an agent who helps victims erase their past by staging their death. Title doesn't work because the memory remains. He erases Vanessa Williams who possesses a disc. Director Chuck Russell previously made The Mask and he seems to have a flair for ideas that fail to translate. Opening sequence bares little importance and the structure deteriorates into graphic violence. Schwarzenegger uses nearly every cliché in the book and runs full steam after having a spike rammed through one shoulder. James Caan is typecast as the villain who seems like a replica of countless other villains he has played. Williams is the typical damsel protected by Schwarzenegger and on the run with information that is in her possession. Robert Pasterelli appears as a previous client whom is saved in the opening but the role is mere cardboard. James Coburn makes this one of his worst appearances, which is a set back considering what he is capable of. Graphic violence throughout including a scene where several thugs are mangled by crocodiles. Do the filmmakers deem this necessary or is it just for the sake of entertainment? Theme could have examined identity but its brutality and gore are the very elements that should have been erased. Score: 3 / 10
