A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The movie gets beneath the layers of thick we've all covered ourselves with as we move through life. It simply unravels how we could all potentially mess ourselves up if we don't occasionally draw back to basics and reset entirely. Take of this cloak of who we might be someday versus who we are!The movie begins with a teenage boy who has suicidal thoughts and in the attempt of helping himself, insists on being checked into a psychiatric ward. As the movie progresses, so many thoughts come to mind: Aren't we all just layering ourselves with expectations that sometimes make us feel stuck and we can't move? Like a million pretty sweaters under a fancy looking leather jacket but, at the inflexibility to bend to tie your shoelaces. How many of us go back to basics to just engage with things that basically make us who we are by connecting with our senses- sounds, visual creativity, touch, taste and smells. Everything that actually screams existence and just being. Most of us are just so wound up in our heads that we wrap up this beautiful mind with just thoughts over thoughts limiting it from evolving or growing or allowing it to function as its holistic self. This movie is made like as if it were really happening right there in front of you. I recommend everyone watch it.For those wondering am I messed up? - you'd find your answers. And finally, the movie talks about giving and being there for another. There's nothing more powerful and fulfilling than making a difference in someone else's life. While this review is my first and I've tried to focus on the heart of the movie more than the actual storyline here. My hope is you watch it and let the story unravel the way it speaks to you.

The movie revolves around a suicidal American teenager Craig. Craig is suicidal because of various social elements and pressure to achieve big in life. Due to this, he lands up in a psychiatric hospital where he lives for 5 days and gets almost rejuvenated thereafter. The movie makes you feel inspired to live a desired and a positive approached life. The movie indirectly tells to find the happiness in small things. It has various special quotes that will work wonders if you'll think about it and later implement it. My favorite quote from the movie is, "God, grant me the strength to change the things I can, courage to accept the things I can't and wisdom to know the difference."

this film trivializes depression to be little more than an illness which can be dealt with within the space of 5 days. this had so much potential and yet explored almost none of it. disappointing.the acting is clunky and Zach Galifianakis does not suit the role he plays at all.there are several clumsy attempts to make depression an 'everyday illness' by having the main character's friends allude to struggling with it which also detract from the legitimacy of the illness.overall, a very poor attempt to raise awareness about mental health - especially as many of the other mental health issues seen within the film are left largely unaddressed.

I'm actually glad to have not read the novel because I wouldn't waste my time reading something pointless. I thought the movie and the storyline had no meaning at all. Yes I know it's about a teenage boy admitting himself to a Mental Institution since he was unfortunately suicidal. I just think the actor who played him didn't seem interested in his role. He just didn't give that click to fall in love with the character enough. It made me think, why couldn't they have gotten an older actor playing the teenager? It would be totally different and a lot better since they would have more experience then a teenage actor. I don't think a love story would suit anything for this kind of movie, it just kinda holds me back on concentrating on the teen. He should've at least made a new friend and that would be more better then a love interest. I don't want to brag too much because it just didn't satisfy me at all. It is the worst adaption ever!
