In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this film was titled She's Funny That Way, but the odd title notwithstanding, this is one funny movie! It isn't funny in a modern way, either; it feels like a 1930s screwball comedy. Gone are the days when movies rely solely on verbal banter, but Peter Bogdanovich has created a classic for today's audiences. The film alternates between the actual story and Imogen Poots's character's interview from after the story's end. I don't happen to think Poots is very pretty look at on the screen, but there's nothing wrong with her acting or her very thick, adorable New York accent. Included in the fast-paced story is a cast of colorful characters including a womanizing playwright, a hooker with a heart of gold, and an incompetent therapist. Set in New York, with quick, clever dialogue, this film reminds me of a Woody Allen movie. Even Poots's over-the-top accent sounds like Allen coached her. So if you like his movies, you'll like this one. If you like classics, you'll like this one. If you like clever humor, well, you'll like this one. It's funny that way, you know?

The point of a screwball comedy is to set up a situation, then have a conflict erupt, and to solve the puzzle and put everything back together in the last 5 minutes at the end. The audience must be taught by the story how the pieces *should* fit back together, so they can start rooting for the ending halfway through the movie. This movie had a very good beginning. It seems like the middle was contrived in a "Luke, I am your father" sort of way, by the author creating way too many familial relationships that are revealed all at once in an Italian restaurant in the middle.Unfortunately, the writers never bothered to write a convincing ending. The never did the legwork to convince the audience that there was a solution, and they completely bailed on the ending and it seems like this movie just ends and nobody really cares how any particular character's life turned out. In fact, the writers bailed out in the first 30 seconds because we know throughout the movie that one person's life turned out great, but everybody else's life - i couldn't tell you what happened to even one other character 5 minutes after the movie finished. This movie quite possiblyh started life as a play. Many famous actors and actresses wanted to appear in this movie. It's a shame that the writers didn't do a better job with the ending.

Hey Woody, no offense, but I loved this movie.... it really reminded me of your lighter days.....don't be cruel, but Peter Bogdanovich has done a great job of continuing the Woody Allen genre...I loved Imogen's NY-ish accent...wow, pretty realistic most of the time - way better than what I have been trying for 20 years :(, I would not have believed that she is British ;).... Honey, I love what you did on this film....time to try out for the CIA - you really have a wonderful way with accents, just as an alternative ;)It was a really nice light hearted movie....I am hoping for a Woody successor, am Peter certainly presents a very good case.

I am really happy Peter Bodganovich have been able to made another movie; but sadly it wasn't successful and perhaps sometimes too old fashioned.A call girl with dreams of becoming an actress; meets sweet customer. They have a romantic evening (and sex) and he offers her $ 30K to start a new life and leave prostitution. She accepts and next day; after quitting her job goes to an audition and the play director happens to be his magnanimous customer. From there; a lot of things start happening and a lot of characters some of them well known now or from another time get small and usually funny parts. This is a comedy of errors; people encounter other people in the worst moment and somehow there is a relation between them. Trying to explain anymore will kill the surprise; but let's just say that the fun keeps going until losing steam near the end. However; there is a last minute twist that keeps the movie on the real world and present one last cameo (of the many this movie has).Almost everybody does a nice job; however Jennifer Aniston steals the show by far as an uptight psychologist who needs more help than she can provide (and in fact does not help anybody too much). The fun peaks on every one of her scenes. It is not a great movie; but is far better that most of the comedies released this year.
