Good concept, poorly executed.

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

A hero cop accidentally leads his team into a trap from which he is the only survivor. Drowning his guilt in booze, he is eventually assigned a new younger partner who turns out to have his own secrets. New Police Story is easily the best of all the Police Story Films it's not only very serious but it also has one of Chan's most serious performances and as an action film it's very dark because once his team dies it's bloody awful in a good way always and then he spends his time getting drunk but he chooses to go after the people who killed his team and it's really the best Police Story movie ever made and Jackie Chan gave a fantastic performance!!!

So I binged watched all of the police stories movies in a row and I felt the need to comment on this one in the series. Now all of the movies have their own separate stories so you don't need watch them all unlike the lethal weapon series where you would be TOTALLY lost by the fourth movie. I've always saw these movies as kung fu movie that don't take too serious and never really pay attention to the plot. This one however it really REALLY wants you to focus on the story, and it gets dark and depressing pretty quick. My main problem with the movie is that version I watched had a weird dubbed version but also had subtitles playing at the same time, but with different words. It really took me out of the moment. The action is standard jackie chan, however the action scenes kinda takes a backseat to the tension and drama in the film. If you're looking for some insane scenes that you saw in the first one, you're going to be disappointed. Watch it if you're a fan of the series, but definitely not a good starting point.

Review: This film really did surprise me because there isn't any silly jokes, whatsoever and it had quite a serious storyline, which is out of character for a Jackie Chan movie. In this movie, Chan is playing a senior inspector and he is sent out to solve a case which involves young kids robbing a bank. With his elite force, he follows the clues to a warehouse but his whole elite force gets ambushed and brutally taken out by the video game fanatics. Chan manages to escape from the warehouse but he suffers deep depression after watching his team get brutally murdered. One of the team was his girlfriends brother so he finds it hard to face her and go back to work. He then starts drinking heavily and a passer-by rescues him from the gutter. His new found friend poses as a cop and he convinces Chan to take on the case to find the killers who murdered his squad. After piecing all of the clues together it turns out that the teenagers are just a bunch of rich kids who are rebelling against there parents and the leader of the group has serious issues with his father, who is the head of the police department. Now that Chan has stopped drinking and is completely focused on taking down the teenagers, he uses all of his resources, including his new found friend, to stop them in there tracks. The stunts in this movie were amazing and the crazy bus chase and abseiling down tall building scenes, were great. There really isn't anything that Chan can't do! Watching him play a depressing role was a big change to his usual happy go lucky roles but he done it well and he showed some true emotion in parts of the film. The fighting scenes were also top class from both Chan and his young sidekick and I liked the fact that the director didn't over complicate the storyline. Although this movie is called the New Police Story, it really isn't connected to the early Police Story movies, even though he is playing a cop again. Anyway, I enjoyed this lengthy movie because of the detailed action sequences and the fact that you get to see another side to Jackie Chans acting. Enjoyable!Round-Up: This movie was directed by Benny Chan who brought you the great Shaolin movie in 2011. The mixture of serious, intense drama and action, really worked in this film and the fast hitting fighting scenes made this modern day movie a joy to watch. The only downside that I found with the film was that it was a bit long and annoying teenagers seemed to be getting away with murder, literally. It didn't make sense that there was only one cop willing to sacrifice everything to take down the teenagers, who were causing havoc in the city. After murdering all of Chans elite squad, his fellow police officers were blaming Chan, because he put them in a comprising situation and they never show there appreciation for Chan efforts to take the baddies out. Anyway, I personally enjoyed the film and it's a "must have"for Jackie Chan fans. I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/crime/drama/martial arts movies starring Jackie Chan, Nicholas Tse, Mak Bau and Tak-Bun Wong. 7/10
