I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

On the surface this romantic movie seems so formulaic one might pass it over unless a fan of each and every movie of this genre anxious to watch all of them over and over. A rich entrepreneur threatens the livelihoods of many struggling working people in Miami. His daughter has no interest in joining his empire and would rather become a professorial dancer. Her mentor becomes a low end male employee struggling to help his sister and niece make ends meet in Miami who works for her dad. The two leads of course face every obstacle thrown their way in the generic romantic movie and come out on top precisely the way those not fascinated by this genre expect. What makes this movie special is its superb film making. Every shot grabs the audience and keeps their interest. The seemingly trite themes are repackaged as meaningful for our time and the progress of the leads fascinating to watch. In the end one predicts the formula yet thoroughly enjoys every moment of the film.

I love step up so much, but this is the worst one so far. The movie starts off so good with that awesome dancing scene at the beginning and then it starts to get really boring and half the time I don't even understand what is going on in the movie. I wish that they could do something different in each Step Up movie other than just two dancers who meet and then fall in love in every movie. it just feels like the movies keep repeating itself. I could think of heaps of ideas for dancing/hip hop movies and they don't always have to have romance as half of the main story. I'm looking forward to the fifth and I know that there's going to be another romantic story in it as well. I don't understand why they can't make up another idea, too many love stories in every type of a movie will eventually just get boring.

who says that dance can't change anything electric boogie all over again but better way way back before even the first step up there was a low budget flick that became popular to it remains one of my favorites Electric Boogaloo (1984) along the very same lines as this step up 4 is believe it or not more believable very well directed soundtrack the hole thing is awesome very well done in this day and age this kind of thing is happening some of us are being redeveloped out of existence definitely a keeper so what if it's not another star wars or ET the fact is that its more real than both those movies combined no matter what you think of Hip Hop and graffiti they are some of the most real world arts of today

This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Just to start off I am not the kind of person to negatively review something unless it is truly terrible enough to deserve it. The story line of this movie is terrible and completely unrealistic. I understand it is a dance movie but to think that dancing this is going to make some monumental difference in society is ridiculous. Also to make it as though they are facing having to serve hard time in the Big House for dancing around just comes off as dumb. It drives me crazy to watch movies like this that try to pull off some sort of profound message but fail miserably. It is sad to think about all the young boys and girls out there who will grow up idealizing movies like this. These movies should stick to dancing and leave the messages to serious movie makers. If you feel the need to watch this movie I recommend saving yourself time and just fast forward to the dance scenes.
