A different way of telling a story

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

The movie's unnecessarily long run time due to its drawn out scenes of ships, clouds and space, and a boring substandard plot which makes use of none of its strong characters, makes me wonder why I even bothered to write this review.

There was simply not enough material for a full-length movie; it would have been a very good episode. Damn, they could have added just a few ideas, changed the plot structure a little bit and shortened the movie with 30-40 minutes... it had so much potential! Being too slow-paced is not the real problem; the plot was simply too thin for such a long movie. So, the movie is not thrilling, nor dramatic or introspective (although it tends to be)... there is an initial spark of mystery, followed by a tone of inconsistent and uninteresting scenes; but it has a very interesting conclusion. I don't know if this idea has been used before, but I liked it very much! So the movie had a redeeming conclusion, but did I really need to spend more than 2 hours for that?

The pressure was on to do something great and pressure does strange things to people, places and things. Coal can turn into a diamond under pressure but the pressure here to turn out a hit using the success of the series worked against it. We wanted to see the characters unleashed and free to do whatever they wanted based on what they previously did. The story lacked and I am surprised for this as the original series had so many unique and interesting stories to tell making one wonder why they didn't use one of those? Well they ended up realizing this afterwards and did just that. They took the episode "space Seed" and turned it into The Wrath of Khan for Star Trek # 2. Also getting a Director with a passion makes a difference too. Eventually the series itself found its footing and had all its positive ducks lined up and did a nice run. Of course they had to end it as the characters were aging terribly. They left us in good condition however. When I first saw this, I was a Trekkie so I endured it to the end. But this is not a movie you would see again because it has no memorable scenes. Good snack movie with a tasty drink and if you want to visit with this please do because after all, it is a Star Trek movie and that makes it okay

I had tried to see this movie again for years, remove it out of boredom. I'm wearing it again. How can a film of space popcorn be so slow? As there is always that Star Wars showdown, Star Trek, because I wanted to see both. But the truth has been a big disappointment. I do not see anything to this movie. It is clear that it is forty years old and the effects are not going to be of now and you will see that they fail and of course this one shows what is done in chrome, but that is the least of it. But I keep asking myself when the adventure is going to start and testosterone is going to jump. The film is so special, that at one point two nurses enter the screen and go to the sick. In this movie everything is going slow. The beginning of the film is like a trip to enjoy the ship, but who wants to delight with the ship? I do not like the costumes, they seem ugly and not appropriate for this type of cinema.Photography is normal, neither good nor bad. But the direction, starting from that the film has a lack of total rhythm, there are many plans left in the beginning. The plans are not pretty.I do not think the actors are all right. Neither good nor bad.Personally, I stay with Star Wars
