In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

This movie is a pretty Good Friday night flick if you're lookin for something decent to watch... A little over the top with some of Terrence McDonagh's (Nicolas Cage) Antics, but I think that adds to the characters Personna & it definitely makes the story more interesting & entertaining overall. So sit back, relax & get ready to be entertained by this packed cast including: Nicolas Cage, Val Kilmer, Eva Mendes, Fairuza Balk, Exhibit & Jennifer Coolidge. Also making appearances is, Shea Whigham & Michael Shannon as well. You definitely won't be disappointed...

Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans is not to be compared or criticized alongside Abel Ferrera's original slam dunk gutter piece. The two films are completely different animals and share nothing but the title, and the theme of a cop gone bad. Here the cop in question is Detective Terence Mcdonough (Nicolas Cage), a coke snorting, endlessly corrupt live wire with a bad back and a worse temper. He's living the down and dirty life in New Orleans with his equally strung out, whorebag of a girlfriend (Eva Mendes) and equally corrupt partner Stevie (Val Kilmer). He's one bad move away from being kicked off the force, and one bad bet away from incurring the wrath of his menacing bookie (Brad Dourif). Even so, he wades deeper into nasty, post Katrina waters, getting involved with a volatile gangster (Xzibit) and falling further down the sinkhole of drugs and debauchery that has consumed him. Cage gives some of the best work of his last decade, a tweeked out tirade of reprehensible behaviour and manic facial contortions that scare characters and the audience alike. The cast is ripe with talent, actors like Tom Bower, Michael Shannon, Jennifer Coolidge and Fairuza Balk rounding out the roster. Herzog brings his flair for all things weird to the table here, giving the film oddball characteristics in places where it could have fallen into st right crime drama. It's colourful as well, not the drab, run down New Orleans we see in some films, but bright, crazy costumes on even crazier people. Those iguanas are a nice touch too.

Sure it has Nicholas Cage in it, but this movie was a weirder than I thought it would be. Watching this movie was like watching COPS, except it focuses in on the crooked cops and it's trippy. Because the Bad Lieutenant, is a cocaine addict. The plot is about a New Orleans Police Sergean played by Nicholas Cage who got hurt rescuing a prisoner and thus ends up relying on painkillers and cocoain because of that. It's about a corrupt cop that gets even more detestable and corrupt as the film progresses. This movie can be difficult to follow at times, since it's all over the place and can get bizarre from time to time. It's a pretty nihilistic and bleak movie. Nicholas Cage was the right actor to play in this story, because the plot is about a crazy obnoxious junkie cop spiraling out of control. So yeah, if you like watching crazy over the top Nicholas Cage. Chances are you will somewhat like this movie.6.3/10

Excellent movie. (Don't be put off by the lame title, which makes it sound like it is part of a series, or a video game. It is neither). On the surface, a conventional cop drama. However, one of the cops, played by Nicholas Cage, is corrupt, and a drug addict. The movie is more about his life, and his descent into addiction, and more outlandish situations to feed his habit, than the murder case he is working on. The results are surreal, and darkly funny at times (look out for anything involving iguanas!).While the plot and direction are solid and original, it is the performance of Nicholas Cage which makes the movie. He acts out of his skin, relishing the opportunity to act insanely over the top. I would go so far as to say that this is his best performance since the superb "Leaving Las Vegas" (1995). That says a lot in that he won the Best Actor Oscar for that performance, and was nominated for his performance in "Adaptation" (2002).Solid performances from the supporting cast - Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, rapper Xzibit (which was a surprise casting, and even more surprising performance, in a pleasant way).Probably won't be suitable for everyone's taste. If you're looking for straightforward cop drama, forget it. If you want something that's edgy, gritty, meaningful and different, this is it.
