Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks. The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

This movie really is family friendly cute fun. Jennifer garner and Steve carrell really make this movie great, well not just their performances make it great, but they are great contributions. The kid actors do well, especially Alexander. The script is pretty well written actually, funny, and clever as well. Jennifer garner really has some very funny lines. This movie has menu funny and amusing events that occur throughout the whole hour and fifteen minute long movie. Now the movie isn't always 100% on the comedy, but it comes pretty close. This movie also has a good many heart warming moments, which gives the actors a good chance to show off their acting abilities. There is a really good message that this film sends the audience's way. I give Alexander and the bad day..... A 7/10.

You can always find something positive even in the most negative things. Or days for that matter. This is a light hearted affair and hopefully you can enjoy it for what it is. The acting is spot on, for a comedy like this. I was positively surprised by this, because I thought it would be just by the numbers, but it is more than that. Some days just seem to be cursed, though you never know by whom or if that is even the case. Always try to do the best of anything is kind of a message of the movie. It's also PG, so don't expect any cursing, but rather a family comedy. Just be open to it or don't watch it. I think a quick look at the trailer will be telling, if this is for you or not.

Alexander wishes for his birthday for his family to have a bad day. For a family movie, the film is quite good. Of course there are lots going on in just one day, but fortunately it doesn't get boring. The family power above all revelation is not just the first cliché of the movie, but it works. It's not funny and I don't know if it was meant to come out as funny, neither is romantic, fortunately because pre teen romance does get a little creepy some times. The kid is a really good actor for his age and handles everything great, as the movie mainly focuses on him. And so four out of ten for this family movie, that works for a quite afternoon and the kids will like it.

The movie is an adaptation of a book from the 1970s. It takes place 24 hours before Alexander's 12th birthday.Alexander is one of four children. His eldest brother has an upcoming school prom, a driving test to take and his girlfriend. His older sister is more interested in the school production of Peter Pan. His baby brother loves his bumble fee soother and his parents Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner are more interested in their careers and the other children. Alexander feels left out, he's having a bad time (no one at school has shown an interest in attending his birthday party because someone else is having a better one) and wishes a bad day on everyone else.Indeed almost by magic things go rather catastrophic for everyone. A typographical error in a new book puts her mum's job in jeopardy. His sister has a bad cough and becomes hyper after taking some cough mixture resulting in an exuberant school performance. His brother breaks up with his girlfriend and then fails his driving test and crashes the car. His baby brother's favourite soother is destroyed and his father's job interview seems to be heading for disaster. There is plenty of cloying slapstick, accident prone disasters befalling on the family a lot of it bought about by the family themselves because they appear to be so disorganised.I watched it with my son who rather enjoyed the slapstick and some of the risqué humour was right up his street as he is near Alexander's age. However I felt that it was rather light on plot and felt more like a Disney television film rather than a cinema film. The siblings did not feel like a family to me. More like a group of strangers in the same room. Although the parents actually looked like people trying to do their best for the kids and realise they might have ignored Alexander and took him for granted. It is not a bad film, nor its a good one. It is a film to watch as a family which will keep you sporadically amused.
