The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

Watching recent American movies, i was getting tired of those prestigious families, full of money and careers, of this stifling violence against enemies, of this outrageous promiscuity and endless nudity… So up to now, if the adult content was however cut from, families movies were pretty indigestible (Narnias, Spiderwick, …) faraway of the excellent Labyrinth, Goonies from the 80s ! This one caught me right from the start : it's about a young boy in rural America who is alone, feeling cut from his poor family (at least, a movie about one with an admirable Patrick as always) and school fellows. He takes refuge in his artistic hobby and has a crush on his musical teacher. As she is played by Deschanel, i can understand him but beyond, this is very similar to my own life… Then he befriends her new neighbor friend (not Mary Jane but the excellent girl who played with Hillary in a supernatural thriller in the bayou) and thanks to her and her wide, limitless imagination and acceptance, he is open to life again ! He feels better with himself, his family and his friend ! I just love the way their friendship is built, stone after stone, how they face together to the bad things of their real life and how they use theirs to imagine a better world ! For one time, it feels real, there is no violence, there is not an enemy to kill taking a gun…. The two acting kids are marvelous as much the mute boy than the always happy girl ! And then, every thing will change after he makes maybe a selfish choice… So it's a bit again Peter Parker and his great responsibility but also the same pain of the very moving novel (and also movie) Walk to remember… This is as sudden, unexpected, and senseless as the real life and what happens is really done with tact, emotion, compassion… The only regret i could say is that for me, the link between reality – fantasy seems to not have been used to its maximum potential ! So it's a wonderful movie for kids and adult as well with values and tools very useful to live… I thought i concluded with a personal remembrance but i noticed that i have already done it when reviewing french Facts of life, a title that that would be also very accurate for this beautiful movie !

Bridge to Terabithia follows a young boy without any friends until the new girl joins his school. Together they discover a forest and create a fantasy world within it where they can live away from the real world. The end of the movie was the best part of it. The characters become much more realistic and it manages to actually strike up a bit of emotion. I came close to crying twice at various points in the last 20 minutes. The rest of the movie isn't very good. The child actors are kind of bad, so it's hard to look past them and enjoy the movie for the plot and what-not. But in actuality the plot still isn't very good. It's basically just a couple of kids playing around in a tree house. Sure, they're conjuring up their own plot and stuff, but even then it's not really that interesting. Although I'm sure that plenty of kids would like the fantasy aspect of it.Probably the worst part of this movie are the characters. Everyone is an absolute jerk to the point where they're unrealistic. The writing for the main bully characters is especially bad. I can't really tell if it's on purpose or not, but it's really difficult to take any of it seriously. Maybe that's just because I wasn't bullied when I was younger so I can't relate, but I think that whether or not I've experienced something like this I should be able to relate to or at least understand why these characters would do these things. That's just good writing. The biggest thing that sets the tone of the movie off is the ending. While I thought it was the best part of the movie it switches the tone from childish and fun to realistic and depressing, and it makes me wonder if it was supposed to be a kid's movie or not. Just out of the blue it suddenly throws a pretty mature theme at the audience. so is it for kids or adults? As far as I'm concerned the kids will like the majority of the movie except the ending, and adults will like the ending and that's it. So who's this movie for? Unless there's something I'm missing here. Another big problem I had was the relationship between the main character and his music teacher. Apparently they were relatively close, yet the amount of interactions they have with each other can be counted on one hand. He holds a door open for her once or twice, stares at her creepily, and suddenly they're besties. It just didn't make any sense where their sudden closeness came from. Overall Bridge to Terabithia isn't that great of a movie. While there were aspects that I liked, nor was it a particularly horrible experience to watch, it wasn't really that well made. Maybe I'm missing something, but as far as I'm concerned this is a pretty poorly made movie. In the end I wouldn't recommend it.

I remember reading the book on my last year of primary school and lemme tell ya, it was seriously sad for a 12 year old haha ! I actually forgot all about it, until I've seen the movie airing on Channel 4 today. It really brought memories because actually, my classmates and myself on our school tour in 2007 had a choice to watch either "Pirates of the Caribbean:At World's End" or this. No doubt since I am a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean so I went to see that instead! Anyways let's talk about the film, wow I didn't realise young Josh Hutcherson was on this! May, he looked so young and is different now as a grown up! Himself and AnnaSophia Robb looked so cute together! Their relationship really blossomed as the film went on and that's what I liked about the story because it reflects friendship no matter what age, religion, circumstances, gender you are! I was very saddened that Leslie died because it brought a flashback to me when I read the book in class and heard she got drowned! Very sad! This is the best movie adaption although like any movie taken from novels, it wouldn't be the same as the book. Sure, it's good enough because they did a good job in making this movie happen!

Watching BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, I'm reminded once again why I avoid American kid's films as a whole: they're far too twee and sentimental, heavy-handed when it comes to the moralising, and most American child actors are intensely annoying. At least the '80s wave of 'kid gang' films like STAND BY ME, THE GOONIES, and THE MONSTER SQUAD avoided all that and featured endearing and realistic children.Sadly, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA is a rather dull effort about a couple of self-centred children who enter a world of imagination populated by giant creatures and woodland spirits. Of course, all of this is an aid to escape the confines of everyday life, populated by the usual uncaring parents and school bullies. The film is saddled with the sullen-looking Josh Hutcherson (THE HUNGER GAMES) as the lead, and he's one of those people with a face you'd like to slap. Still, Anna Sophia Robb is better, although the film is saddled with an oh-so-kooky turn from the irritating Zooey Deschanel in support. Watch out for Robert Patrick, playing Hutcherson's father. The CGI effects in this film are weird and quite poor, and for large sections I was uninterested in what was taking place on screen, although there is an unexpected and rather good plot twist that stops it from being one of the worst.
