The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

One of the best films by Charles Chaplin and of the silent movie era about a man in the late 19th century who goes to Alaska in the gold rush. The story is, as always on Chaplin's part, very beautiful and touching, conveying a positive message and strong moral values. This movie contains some of the most iconic scenes of silent movies. The only snag I have with this movie is its sudden end about Chaplin's love interest for Georgia, and Georgia has not convinced me. The impression she gave me was that she did not love him but rather felt sorry for him, which at least is already a step in becoming more human, and when finding that he became millionaire she seemed only more relieved (financially) than properly happy - unless both money and happiness are the same to her. And this is the only reason why I cannot score this movie more than 7/10.

One of Charlie Chaplin's earliest films and still counted amongst his best. In it his signature character, The Tramp, returns in order to look for gold in the Great Klondike Gold Rush. The plot of the film isn't overly complex. None of the Chaplin plots are. Tramp wanders around, gets into trouble, meets a girl, suffers from misfortune, only to end on a happy note. What makes these films so lasting is the comedy and the great drama that is always present despite the comedy. And very much so in here where the harshness of the time period and the harshness of the location emphasize the drama and the suffering, making the light-hearted scenes all the sweeter for it.And the comedy is really good. Personally, as a man born near the end of the century, I do find it a bit slapsticky and repetitive. But that's the nature of comedy, of art in general. People change, societies change and thus tastes change. I can still appreciate it and the impact it has left without rolling on the floor tears of laughter in my eyes. The Gold Rush is Charlie Chaplin in a nutshell. City Lights emphasizes his storytelling and dramatic moments, but this has better comedy in my opinion. Definitely worth a watch for all interested in the roots of cinematic comedy.

Charlie Chaplin has shown on many occasions that is the master in creating very comedic situations in almost everything that is happening around him. Non the less movie uses gold fever to make you experience all the troubles and funny moments that strike upon everybody that found themselves there. Then it kicks into a love story that is on top with rejection, sadness and reuniting at the end. Masterful piece of Charlie film making career that created very much memorable, sensible and at the time funny movies with amazing plots about everyday things that's been happening. It brilliantly shifts between scenes and creates this feeling of empathy for the Prospector and his survival in that world. Music is absolutely magnificent and with it's perfectly timing they amplify every scene. 3.5/4

The gold rush, an early work from Chaplin after "The Kid". This one, integrally one of the most humorous and lightest. A story of a tramp's adventure to a mountain. He meet so many things in the trenches, bear, hunter, and of course a romance, which Chaplins best at. In this masterpiece, which Chaplin prevalent made, consist one of the best performance by the exalted Chaplin. A performance at the dinner, yeah guys, these dancing bread !! Nowadays, you can't call it as acting, we call it as pure talent.Prevailing habits of the audience while witnessing another Chaplin, the feelings of another inspiration, another humanity, another huge applause, and of course another cry. I never understand why he always successfully did it, such a prosperous masterpiece maker. We don't talk about ecclesiastical or pious on Chaplins. He was secular but as triumphant humanism, noble as film-maker. Chaplin is a generous elite that dare and care to us, the next generation. He taught us so many universality which distilled by every scenes within silence. Maybe haunting the viewers with his creation was his hobby. Bring the reconciliation after fights, bring the light after darkness, and bring a smile after sadness, that was Chaplin could do. That was proved for every generation whose already watch his creations. Thank you Chaplin.. from your biggest fan.. 23 years-old boy..
