The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

I'm a fan of movies and (especially) books with polarized reviews. It usually means that something about it offends people in a compelling way worth experiencing. This movie was the same. And also different. Theron does a brilliant acting job. Her subtle facial expressions, attitude and tone of voice are awe-inspiring. She makes this film. It's worth watching for as long as you can to simply appreciate how good she really is. It's why this film won its awards. If you begin watching knowing you won't make it to the end, you'll enjoy it a lot more. Part of the irony of this film is that the main character is so unlikeable that you give up on her - before the film is over. And, that is OK! More than OK. Watch it until the point that you become thrilled you are no longer in high school. That you're no longer trapped by high school immaturity. That you're past that phase of your life, and fortunate enough to NOT be living in that past. Then go have (just) one glass of wine to celebrate. And be happy you didn't turn out to be the emotionally stunted, depressed alcoholic played brilliantly by Theron. If you stop one third of the way, you'll probably want to give it eight stars. For each 1/6 of the way longer, you'll want to drop it by a star. So stop while you're ahead and just appreciate the acting. And your life as it is now.

Depressed upon discovering that her former high school beau is happily married with an infant daughter, a young adult fiction writer sets out to win her old boyfriend back in this dark comedy from Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody. For a film marketed as a comedy, the laughs are few and far between, but that is not necessarily a bad thing as 'Young Aduilt' challenges one to think about whether what the authoress is going through is humorous, sad, pathetic, absurd or all of the above. Given how despicable her character is (wanting to tear apart a happy marriage; constantly dismissing an injured former classmate), Charlize Theron miraculously comes off as sympathetic the whole way through. It takes some suspension of disbelief to accept that she really does think that her plan will work, but Theron is always convincing in her quiet scenes and her growing sense of longing and regret is easy to relate to. What also works quite well is how Theron realises for the first time on her quest that the popularity of her book series is truly declining. Her world seems to be coming apart at the seams, and there is also a lot to like in how she uses her quest as fuel for penning her final novel at the same time. The book series is what she has used in order to delude herself into believing that she is still young, and with it on the decline, she finally has to grow up. 'Young Adult' is really a very apt title for the film in this regard. Patton Oswalt delivers has a solid supporting turn here too, but this is Theron's film the whole way as she renders her sour character with a nefarious plan utterly human.

If your high school sweetheart was stolen by the prom queen years ago, this is a really feel-good movie to you.Young Adult is bold enough NOT to have a happy ending or silver lining, Charlize Theron is brave to take an unlikable, narcissistic and almost pathetic lead role. Diablo Cody's screenplays reminds me Tennessee Williams: the lead characters are shattered, ruined, and finally must face the broken mirror, their bad choices made and their own flaws.Back to the film itself, I like some of the brilliant touch-ups: Buddy is not Mr. Nice either, he does not care about what happened to Matt. Matt's sister may have flattered Mavis only for getting a chance to leave Mercury. Does Mavis still love Buddy? No way, it is not about the old flame, it is about desperately trying to get back her glorious teenage years and what she could have had. But eventually you would feel sorry for Mavis' loss and failure. C'est la vie. If Juno, the teenage pregnant girl written by Diablo Cody, turned 37 years old, she could be Mavis and this film just needs to add a scene: she watched her 20 years old son/daughter in a distance, turned around and left in the rain.

It's rare these days to find a film that is more focus on story and the art of making a motion picture.Lucky Young Adult is one of those rare films that delivers on both performance and story telling. The story centers around Mavis Gary (Played by Charlize Theron) who is Soon after her divorce, a fiction writer returns to her home in small-town Minnesota, looking to rekindle a romance with her ex- boyfriend, who is now happily married and has a newborn daughter. The film features a good cast with Charlize Theron as the lead character and I enjoy really enjoy her performance in this film. Patrick Wilson playing Buddy, Elizabeth Reaser, Patton Oswalt, Collette Wolfe. It just has the feel of it being a independent film and if it is way to go because Independent films focus on story telling and character development. So Young Adult does really well on both accounts. The cast brought their best to the film where Charlize Theron showcase her performance and I enjoy her performance. The music helps move the story along as it play out in each scene. Also the writers made the film interesting from start to finish plus very good directing done. Overall Young Adult is a very good film and it really strong on it own.I give Young Adult an 8 out of 10
