A Brilliant Conflict
In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
The idea of shooting a biopic dedicated to the life of the legendary musician Johnny Cash came to the film director James Mangold many years ago. It took him seven years to collect all the information, all the facts about Johnny Cash and his life. The movie covers the period from 1955 to 1968. Over the thirteen years Cash experienced so many things: starting from the exultation of triumph due to the large fees, affairs with the girls and finishing with the bitterness of defeat caused by divorce and drug addiction. The life of many famous celebrities proves the fact that their life is full of temptations and few of actors and singers can fight against them. Johnny Cash finally managed to conquer them. He found the strength to return to the stage, and not just to return, but to multiply everything that he had achieved before the life crisis. This return would not take place without the assistance of June Carter, whom Cash dedicated his best songs. Mangold did not try to reinvent the wheel, trying to bring to the genre his "director's vision". He just showed the real life of the real person with all ups and downs. Mangold's film is primarily a tribute to the great musician and his great talent. "Walk the line" is a perfect reflection of the times when such geniuses as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and of course Johnny Cash made first steps in their carriers. Director managed to recreate the atmosphere of those years, or at least he offered a plausible film that gives the viewers the opportunity to enjoy the life story of this brilliant singer.
Walk the Line is a great movie. When you watch it, you feel as though you are watching Johny Cash in person. It is a real good biographical tape. It is dedicated to the life story of the legendary country singer Johnny Cash and his second wife, June Carter. Reese Witherspoon is so cute and beautiful in the film. She absolutely coped with her role. In general, the film is very interesting and not for nothing received an Oscar. You should see this if you like Johnny Cash and country style. The music in the film is so great! Also, every father shoul watch the film to understand their sons.
Walk the line is a wonderful movie which shows the story of life of a young talented musician. It also shows a story about the path in life which everybody choses himself. The protagonist was talented when he was a child, but didn't have a chance to practice his skills. At first the main character led ordinary life but he felt just he needed music. Finally, when he got such an opportunity. he plunged with his head and shoulders in the beautiful world of art and music. People say that show business changes people. Did it changed John's life or this side was always hidden in his inner world? Reese Witherspoon perfectly suits this movie. Her play is magnificent and her character June is stunning. She is a nice, easy-going girl who wants to sing but minds her principles. As for music in the movie, I am not keen of musicals but here it is really matching. All the songs in the movie are incredibly rousing. So, I really advice music-lovers with good taste to watch it. I was esthetically happy. To walk the line means to choose another path, find one's way in life or otherwise loose it. One might cross a thin line which separates good and bad. This is my vision of the main idea. It also encloses the topic of priorities. How to make the right choice? How to decide what is more important: family or work of life? All these questions are posed in this movie and we, the audience, are to answer them to ourselves.
I have just finished reading Johnny Cash' autobiography and this movie has disappointed me to much that I wanted to stop it half way but my wife wanted to see the end and watching it was my idea, so I had to see the whole thing. It swings from being unrealistic to being in plain contradiction with the reality of events and character of people (first of all, his father, June Carter and his relationship with both) as Johnny Cash describes them. I honestly think it insults his memory by pretending to be biographical. This is not a biographical film by any means, it's a hollywood style romantic/soap opera kind of movie about an artist who had indeed a very interesting and unique life, just nothing to do with this movie.
