It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
My wife and I really enjoyed this movie. I loved firstly how well Rob Brown did in his very first screen event. Before I get too far into this, we have both seen Good Will Hunting...we got rid of it! So long ago we drew no comparisons as so many reviewers on here seem to have done.I love movies of situ's where old older person mentors a younger one and this is one of those kind of films.I guess I should confess, due to our disposition we don't go to cinemas anymore. We wait till all the movies we are interested in, come out on DVD.I like all of Sean Connery's roles except the James Bond one or two or?? I also like Anna Paquin, and it would have been nice to see something progress with her and Rob Brown...mixed colour relationship and all that might throw up. Oh me! I run a catalogue of all our DVD collection and I can tell the readers this is one movie that gets a lot of repeat viewing here at home. My father-in-law says you only need to view a movie once. However, I find every time I view a movie, I often pick up something I missed before.I don't want to give away too much, but let me assure readers you will not be disappointed with this movie. Even the cranky old role played by F Murray-Abrahams.
It is a story between a old writer, William and a young talent writer, Jamal. The young man broke into the old man's apartment, then they meet each other. When he enters in a private school with his great basketball skills and writing skills, he finds the old man is one of the great writers. Jamal visits William's home and they start writing together every night. They share their story, too. William tell Jamal do not bring anything he wrote out of the apartment the professor helps Jamal improve a lot and tests him, Jamal shows some of his articles which he wrote in the apartment to his school and gets in trouble. Jamal thought it's William's fault because he didn't tell him. so they fought. Finally, William comes to an important meeting and helps Jamal explain Jamal 'COPIED' other articles because he promise do not tell anybody they write together every night. At that time William merely gave Jamal the first paragraph and let him keep writing. In the end both of them recognize that they are the family they are looking for
I loved that movie. It is a wonderful and touching story about family, friendship and trust. How to find a new family when you've lost yours. In addition, I am not that into reading big novels written by authors having their portrait displayed on walls, but this movie gave me the desire to do so. I have been touched by the interpretation of the young actor Rob Brown. Sean Connery is great a usual. Very good alchemy between those two actors.
Finding Forrester, written by Mike Rich and directed by Gus VanSant, is a drama filled film about a young African-American teenager who is from the very middle of the Bronks. Jamal Wallace, the teenage boy, played by Rob Brown, is not like most boys his age. Jamal has a talent, a talent that will surely change his life forever. When Jamal gets peer pressured into breaking into the creepy old man's window in the upstairs of the Bronks apartment building, something happens that he would have never expected. After losing his bag in the apartment in the wake of being spooked by the old man, he finds it in the street a day later, right below the window. Inside the bags he finds all of his writing graded so to speak. Jamal decides to go back to the apartment room and find out who it is, and after a little confrontation he is surprised to find out that the "creepy old man" is none other than the one and only William Forrester, played by Sean Connery. A few days later Jamal and his mother get called to the principal's office for a meeting only to find out that Jamal has been given the chance to go to a private school by the name of Mailor-Callow. Although he was skeptical, he takes the offer.Even though that it is not everything he was expecting, he still does not give up. With his new friend William Forrester helping him through it all, which to me makes him an archetypal hero, he starts doing great until a confrontation with Prof. Crawford or possibly a so called villain, played by F. Murray Abraham, leads to them finding out some interesting things out about one of Jamal's essays, things started to take a downfall. Worried that he might get kicked out, he had to find something to do. With no more options left, Forrester makes for a good surprise. The ending takes a turn that no one was expecting. It surely does not leave you hanging. This is the type of movie that you do not leave the theater mad about. Overall I would say this film is fit for many audiences. It has humor, drama, and even a little bit of action. In my opinion this movie would be a high four out of five stars.
