it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

MacGruber feels like a SNL Parody packed with bad action and comedy but also with a good cast going completely wasted into the hands of a bad script that surrounds them and their characters and makes for a disappointing film. Plus the cameos from the WWE wrestlers and their roles that go wasted makes it even worse. (0/10)

MacGruber originated as a popular SNL sketch which I never found that funny. So it took a while to convince myself that this would be worth the time. Will Forte plays a formal special ops fighter named MacGruber. His wife was killed on their wedding day by nemesis Dieter Von Cunth (played by Val Kilmer). That's all you need to know. Two things should be addressed regarding this film:1) The cast is surprisingly good with Will Forte, Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids), Ryan Phillippe (Cruel Intentions) work really well off of one another. I was particularly impressed by Val Kilmer (aka Iceman from Top Gun) who seemingly came out of nowhere to fill this role.2) I was not aware of this until afterward, but this MacGruber was directed by Jorma Taccone!! This is the guy who has an extensive history writing for SNL, was part of the comedy trio called The Lonely Island (SNL Digital Shorts), eventually going on to both perform AND direct the recent comedic musical "Popstar" in 2016. I'm a huge fan of his work and it really shines in MacGruber.Don't ignore this one. Like I said, even if you aren't a fan of SNL or the sketch, it's a completely different game on the big screen.----- 7/10 STARS -------- Review by Searsino -----

This movie just gets me. From the child like humor of Will Forte, to the way over the top sarcastic bad guy played by fat Val Kilmer, it's one of my favorites. While personally never having seen MacGyver, I can say as long as you're vaguely aware of the character and/or have seen a few of the original MacGruber skits on SNL (plenty available on YouTube) and have enjoyed them, this movie is fantastic.Long story short, this is a movie about a man stuck mentally in his 80's prime fighting the new age terrorism of the 2000's. A dark comedy that has plenty of hearty laughs and solid nostalgia for anyone born in the 80's- 90's that has any sense of humor at all.

I love stupid spoof movies (Dracula: Dead & Loving It/Date Movie) but I just couldn't watch this one through. I killed it about 30 minutes into the movie. I never laughed. I'm sure some people liked it but it was awful. The characters were plain boring, either Kristen Wiig's acting was terrible or her character was written for someone else. I didn't find her funny at all. She's always a riot but it just didn't mess this time. Ryan Phillippe was alright but since I turned it off half way through, I couldn't tell you if he got better or worse. I truly hope the don't decide to make another one.
