Predator 2 (1990)
This movie is magnificent!
Nice effects though.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
I Love the style of this nintys flick. More Predator than the first one. Goofy, funny, over the top and absolutely enjoyable!
Never understood why this was not liked - it has a 25% score on RT, come on!!The acting is the first thing that gets you. Glover and Busey, then Paxton and of course the great Kevin Peter Hall. Then the mystery. They reveal just enough so you don't know what's happening but still get into the story and never lose attention. Some of the quotes are iconic; like mentioned by the other reviews: "Danny boy", "Do you want some candy", "I don't think he gives a $hit", "You can't see the eyes of the demon, until him come callin'", "Lions! Tigers! Bears! Oh my!", etc...And there are the weapons, that flying homing Discus grinder thing, or the folding javelin, or the cutting net. oh my!
The first 'Predator' movie is probably one of the most overrated ever made. The sequel, 'Predator 2', is practically the same movie but set in a city instead of the jungle. One of the few things the first film had going for it was the setting, which added some much needed tension and suspense to an otherwise underwhelming film. All of that is lost in the second film and all that remains is a bunch of over-the-top action sequences. After so long, the relentless action becomes tiresome and the absence of a decent, interesting plot doesn't help either. Ultimately 'Predator 2' is just another average action flick, just like the original 'Predator' movie.
So you find Predator 2, you expect action filled scenes of stalking in the jungle, punchlines, the whole nine yards. What do you get? a movie nothing like the original set in L.A. how did the predator end up in L.A. Who cares! If you expect anything close to the first installment look else ware. One thing I believe that made the first movie so great was that it didn't have much plot. It simply relied on the uneasiness of the scenery, setting, etc. Would I recommend this movie: No
