Michael Caine may be known for his uncanny role as batman's butler. However, in the case of this film, a different role is portrayed.A brilliant story which is highly akin to real world scenarios and that makes you happy about the 'saddistic' way that revenge takes place within Mr Brown's character.Drugs, sex, illicit arms and hooligan-style bullying are the main topics of this film. After the inevitable loss of his wife and the horrific loss of his lifelong friend, Mr Attwell, Mr Brown transforms from the most humble and gentle being to the most quick-witted 70-year old marine revenge guy. His subtle and calm voice as opposed to the actions taken in getting his revenge play a pivotal role in the brilliant performance; a very bright contrast that compliment each other perfectly.Every decision taken leads to having safe streets once again. It may be used as a symbolism, that sometimes personal action is required as those who are supposed to do the work are dull-hearted.A very brilliant film, that illustrates the real world through the eyes of a ex-marine widower, where the lost love of his dearest ones, pushed him over the edge to take control of the situation at hand.A must watch film!

HARRY BROWN - 2009Directed by Daniel BarberStarring Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer and Plan B(That is not a name)Plot Overview: Soon after his wife dies, thugs kill one old ex- Marine's best friends, and he is not going to rest until they pay for it.How is this movie rated so highly? I always rate a movie as objectively as possible and only rate 1/10 if I truly think a film deserves it, and I can 100% say that this film does. It is a travesty to cinema and I can but think of one, one, barely positive strength for this movie. It is a horrible, horrible movie and it is barbaric that it is rated so highly, in my opinion. It was so stupid and convoluted and boring. Both too much and not enough time was spent on the 'script' for this 'movie'. Fun fact, too much time and too little time are mutually exclusive events. This means that they CANNOT, technically both be true simultaneously. But I'll be dammed if this film doesn't break the laws of existence and manages to perform the impossible. It is so, so bad. Even the ending is just plain awful and silly and stupid and REALLY poorly done.Michael Caine is a terrific actor. He has been incredible in countless movies. This is certainly not one of them. This is, possibly, one of(if not his worst) movies were he is the lead. Granted that isn't all down to him. My singular, barely positive strength is that Caine isn't awful in this movie. That doesn't even remotely make his performance good. He just wasn't awful. And I am supposed to root for this guy? Not to say the thugs were angels but Brown was a literal psychopath. Emily Mortimer is ..... why is she in this movie again? Oh, there is no reason. I understand now. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have just been informed that the writer, Gary Young, was out of his god damn mind when writing this script! Plan B(Still not a god damn name) is atrocious as Noel. He wasn't intimidating and he mistook cursing for 'ardness.I can't say this movie was poorly shot but something not being bad doesn't make it good. It wasn't poorly done but it wasn't well done. It was average, and that may be one of the worst film sins of all. The 'action' in this movie is so, so, so bad. I mean seriously, it is slow, dull and boring. I understand Caine is a fossil but then don't use one of the dinosaurs as an action hero.Harry Brown is really not a good movie in any regard. I cannot for the life of me recommend it. It is awful. I'll rate this movie 1 Psycho Pensioner out of 10!

I recently learned that I had a severe lack of films viewed in which Michael Caine had a lead role. Harry Brown was certainly a film I could watch to begin to fill that void. Harry Brown was the 2009 film directed by Daniel Barber stars Michael Caine in the titular role seeking vengeance for the murder of his best friend. Having rarely seen Michael Caine in any film previously, seeing a gun-toting Michael Caine was quite a sight to behold. A fairly standard vigilante story was made engaging and interesting due to a wonderful performance by Caine.Harry Brown (Michael Caine) is no stranger to tragedy. Living life as a widower in England, Brown sees violence everywhere, including right outside his window. Harry loses his wife, who had been terminally ill shortly after the audience is introduced to him. Brown's only friend left is Leonard Attwell (David Bradley) with whom he enjoys a daily chess game. One afternoon, Leonard confesses to Harry that he is so afraid of the increase of violent acts in the area in which they live that he has decided to carry a bayonet to defend himself. Harry insists that Leonard should go to the police, but Leonard refuses. Shortly after this exchange, Leonard is beaten and stabbed to death with his own weapon. When a couple inspectors come to deliver the news to Harry, he is grief-stricken and completely devastated to lose his only friend left in the world. Knowing that even if the criminals are found and brought to trial, it would be ruled as self-defense because the knife belonged to the victim. Given such a bleak outcome, Harry decides he has had enough of being a victim of tragedy and decides to take matters into his own hands.Technically, Harry Brown had a lot going for it. There were some fantastic cuts that were useful in developing Brown's life at home, illustrating the ways in which he has become used to the violence surrounding him. There was also a fantastic juxtaposition in which we see Harry as the only one in attendance at his best friends funeral while we see a line of cars travel obstructing the audience's view of Harry. This scene was pivotal in establishing the true isolation of Caine's Brown. Thematically, Harry Brown falters a bit. For starters, the audience witnesses too much tragedy all at once in Harry's life. We really don't need to see so many tragedies occurring to drive home the notion that Harry Brown has endured much heartache in his life. A lazy filmmaking tool is showing rather than telling, and the beginning of Harry Brown is all show and no tell. The vigilante justice theme is also one that comes off nearly unavoidably formulaic. For instance, in a vigilante tale, you'll almost always have predicted action, one cop who half-heartedly goes after the vigilant and another beholden to law and order that wants to find the vigilant despite the fact that they are eliminating the bad parts of society--each of these aspects are present in Harry Brown. Harry Brown would undoubtedly be a film that no one would ever speak of, lost to the annals of cinema had it not been for the brilliant performance of Michael Caine. You know that people like Harry exist. There are people all over the world who have one friend in their life who look forward to a daily chess game, and you know this because of how Michael Caine translates the role. I want to learn to play chess, just so I can meet Harry every day so that he has someone to talk to, and is not alone. Michael Caine"s brilliantly emotional performance keeps Harry Brown from fading into obscurity and presents a true masterclass in acting.

An elderly ex-serviceman and widower looks to avenge his best friend's murder by doling out his own form of justice. Harry Brown is a mix of Death Wish meets Taken with an older man played by the great Michael Caine who decides to form his own justice after his best friend gets murdered in an Alley he decides to kill the men responsible for his death but by the end of the film what he finds out is even bigger that he expected. Thanks to a great performance by Caine and some pretty cool action sequences Harry Brown is a different kind of action movie and it totally works just fine and that's why i will give it a 10 out of 10.
