If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

Taking a page from 'Escape from New York' (too many pages according to John Carpenter and the courts), 'Lockout' doesn't hold up to much logical scrutiny, but if you just sorta go with it I think it's pretty fun.Guy Pearce makes for a surprisingly effective action hero as the cynical and sardonic Snow, and he's complimented by a solid cast of "I know I've seen him somewhere..."-type of lesser known actors who take the material to another level.Breezing by at just over 90 minutes, 'Lockout' doesn't overstay its welcome, and delivers a nice throwback actioner with plenty of loaded quips and empty clips.

"Lockout" stars Guy Pearce as a generic tough guy who breaks into an orbital prison and rescues the daughter of the President of the United States. Another in a long line of disposable action movies produced by Luc Besson, the film was directed by James Mather and Stephen Saint Leger.Despite a funny performance by a wisecracking Guy Pearce, "Lockout" is mostly comprised of clichés. Transplanting the plots of "Escape from New York" and "Die Hard" to a space-station, the films is marred by unnecessary flashbacks, needlessly convoluted sub-plots and bad CGI. Maggie Gracce co-stars as thankless eye candy.5/10 – Worth one viewing.

This was a good, but somewhat implausible story, and it could have been a good or even great movie except for the unbelievable and unbelievably bad, stiff & wooden acting by Guy Pearce and others. But it wasn't just Guy Pearce's stiff portrayal; the portrayal of the President was lame and unemotional, the Warden was, well, I think you get the picture. Was it the one-liner dialogue that did the movie in, or was it the bad acting that revealed the clichéd dialogue to be what it is, resulting in one-dimensional, stereotypical action-hero-movie portrayals? This movie tries way too hard to be Die Hard in space. The sane convict brother was a more likable guy than the hero, and the only decent acting was done by a few actors including Lennie James (Shaw) and Vincent Regan & Joseph Gilgun, the sane and insane brother convicts who drive the movie. Because the movie was so dismal, their acting ends up shining like diamonds in a coal bin which can only help but further their careers. I'm left wondering which came first, the chicken or the egg? Was it the bad dialogue and script that soured the acting? Or was it the acting that curdled the dialogue? It had to be a combination of both; the end result of which equals a wasted half- hearted effort of a movie.

For Guy Pearce fans, this is walk in the park.. I know there is no inch of Sci-Fi marvel in this flick..but there is enough chemistry between Guy and Maggie to melt even the sun..;-) in a love-hate way. I loved this movie and watched it many times just for Guy's dialogs.. its not all that bad.. i would rate a sane 7 for this. The premise is good, somehow the space setup is a big let-down just for the fact that it doesn't showcase any iota of space action scenes.. or the thrills.. pencil thin storyline makes it more weak. Few of the side actors are wasted and opening scenes are hurriedly done. Space prisoner histrionics is a waste of time.. they should have thrown some alien mix..:-)
