Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

I watched again the Diary of Anne frank with Millie perkins recently, and i watched this film once when i was a teen and found it good but many years later i don't have the same feeling. The general cast is brilliant and the beginning of the movie is gripping when Otto frank is given his daughter's diary and discovers that time has flown since the first day in the Annex. However there are many inaccuracies. The van Daans for instance never arrived the same day than the Frank and entered the hiding a week after.Plus Anne received her diary the day of her birthday and not in July and Anne is a bit old or Millie perkins who looked like a model whereas real Anne was pretty but she wasn't what we could call a beauty. She was thin even skinny and not obsessed by her appearance like Millie perkins seems to be in the film.Margot is rather well portrayed on the contrary and is quiet and so does Otto but Peter isn't the same than in the diary ,he is a good confident and listener but he never flirted with Anne like we can see but the most disappointing characters are the Van daans. They are total caricature.Despite these flaws this film is quite enjoyable and sometimes disturbing with the scene of the thief and the bombs..The arrest as for it never happened like in the film. The helpers or Miep and Bep and Kruler were in the office on the 4th August and they were forced to speak and tell the Nazi where the refugees were and there were no insistent calls and Anne stopped writing in her diary on the 1 th of August because the arrest was completely unexpected. So the ending in the annex is sugar coated and hollywoodian. This is a beautiful love scene but it isn't real. I give 6 out of 10 to this film.It could have been better ,less romanticized but more detailed.

The famous story of the Jewish girl hiding in an attic in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam receives an impressive screen treatment. Pretty much the entire film takes place inside the cramped attic, and it's a credit to Stevens that a three-hour film in a confined setting manages to remain engaging. Perkins has been unjustly criticized for her performance. She is perhaps a bit too perky in her film debut, but she mostly does well with her expressive face and charming manner. Schildkraut is fine as the father, as are Winters and Beymer as members of another family sharing the attic. In fact, all the acting is good with the exception of Jacobi and Wynn, who come off as rather cartoonish.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a film based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play of the same name, which was based on the diary of Anne Frank. It was directed by George Stevens, with a screenplay by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. It is the first film version of both the play and the original story, and features three members of the original Broadway cast. The movie was based on the personal diary of Anne Frank, a Jewish girl who lived in a hiding place with her family during World War II. All her writings to her diary were addressed as 'Dear Kitty'. The diary was published after the end of the war by her father Otto Frank. By this time all his other family members were killed by the Nazis. This is the autobiographical drama of a young Dutch Jewish girl hiding from the invading Nazis during World War II. Anne and her family share a claustrophobic attic with another family. Tension is often unbearable, as the people hiding know that their discovery by the enemy could lead to almost certain death at the hands of their captors. They also must contend with the Dutch Gestapo or "Green Police," who will turn them over to the Nazis if discovered. Dutch nationals risk their lives by hiding the family for two years. The group, despite the horror and crowded conditions, still find time for celebrations of Hanukkah and rejoice quietly in the small attic that has become their world. The story is told from the narrative perspective of Anne, a young girl hoping to live to womanhood. A poignant drama bringing us into the lives of Anne Frank, whose diary inspired millions seeking to understand why such a sweet, innocent child could be murdered in the Holocaust. It remains a potent statement about the horrors of war and a valid testament to the girl who could answer them by writing, 'I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are really good at heart.' Also,Mr. Stevens has done a superb job of putting upon the screen the basic drama and shivering authenticity of the Frances Goodrich-Albert Hackett play, which in turn caught the magnitude of drama in the real-life diary of a Jewish girl.

This was very accurate, Anne and The VannPells/VanDaans were given 5 minutes to get all of their possessions together. They were given this time because Otto Frank Anne's Father was in WWI and the soldiers were trying to still give him respect. Was it ever discovered who turned the family in? Was it The thief? Anne Frank was a very bright and intelligent young woman, it is so amazing to see a actual account of the Holocaust. Please read the novel and then watch the movie. Your Perspective of everything would be different after seeing the stage directions which show each characters personalities through movement.
