A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

I've enjoyed watching this movie so much, I've seen it maybe FIFTY times (thank goodness for DVDs).BUT the science in it is EXECRABLE! And the more I watch it, the more annoying the "science facts" get. So I just watch it now for the action. And the casting of Sonya Walger as a femme fatale is kind of silly. There are only about 500 women in Hollywood WAY better-looking that her. It makes sense for a total nerd like Flynn to find her devastatingly attractive, but not everyone ELSE.

The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is the first of The Librarian franchise.Noah Wyle stars in the title role as Flynn Carsen, who happens to be a perpetual college student who has obtained 22 academic degrees. Bob Newhart,Jane Curtin,Olympia Dukakis,Kyle MacLachlan,Sonya Walger and Kelly Hu co-stars.Flynn Carsen has collected numerous degrees as he spent most of his time in college. Now that he is 30 years old,he still remains shy which frustrates his mother so much for she wants him to settle down on his own. Finally, his professor expels him to gain some life experience in the real world.Looking for work,Carsen found an unexpected opening with the New York Metropolitan Library where he was hired to look after a special collection that is unknown to the world such as relics that includes the Holy Grail, Pandora's Box, the Golden Fleece, the Sword of Excalibur and the real Mona Lisa. But things become dangerous when there is a group known as Serpent Brotherhood and are determined to steal everything that Carsen has been taking care of in the library. This is definitely fun, enjoyable and an entertaining adventure TV movie. It is definitely far from realistic which can definitely be refreshing. Noah Wyle does a great job and provides a lot of interest in his role as the perpetual college student together with the supporting cast who provided great performances. It is a good film that one can sure in a lazy afternoon.

'The Librarian: Quest for the spear' stars Noah Wyle as Flynn Carsen a rather geeky full-time Student who still lives with his mother and gets given a mysterious invitation for an interview at the Metropolitan Public Library. After his interview the library employee (Jane Curtin) and library head Judson (Bob Newhart) give Flynn the mysterious and secretive position of the 'Librarian' a job which has existed for centuries and its purpose is to protect historical and sometimes magical objects in a secret, well guarded section of the Library. Among the objects contained inside include Pandora's Box, Excalibur, The Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant.Soon after Flynn takes the job on thieves belonging to the evil serpent brotherhood break into the Library and steal one of the parts of the 'Spear of destiny' and whoever holds all three pieces can control the entire World, so Flynn is given the task of finding the other two pieces somewhere in the World before the Bad guys do.A tough Lara Croft-type Library employee (Sonya Walger) joins Flynn on his expedition to try and keep him out of harms way as they travel deep into the Amazon Rainforest. The Librarian: Quest for the Spear is hugely enjoyable with plenty of Action & Adventure that isn't a world away from Indiana Jones in vein, Wyle is likable and the rest of the cast do a really good job - and while this was a Made for Cable Movie, a fair bit of money was spent and it has pretty good special Fx - I can't find many if any faults with it.Followed by The Librarian: Return to King Soloman's Mines & The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice.

The Librarian series of movies has enough intelligent humor and 'cool factor' for adults, and enough 'cool factor' and zany action for kids ... a perfect fit for the family that would like to see an adventure movie without worrying about it causes nightmares for the kids or boredom for the adults. There are some posts criticizing this movie, and I can only imagine that they are from idiots who think that if the film doesn't have lots of bodies dripping gore it is somehow unworthy. Those people are entitled to watch what they want. They are not, however, entitled to ignorantly criticize a top notch family film just because they are too dim to appreciate it.A three movie series (so far), Quest for the Spear is the "origin story" for our intrepid hero, the new Librarian. Pushing this bird out of the nest has proved impossible, but events here conspire to finally have him face the world. If nothing else, the sheer presence of Bob Newhart and Jane Curtain guarantee good scenes, but the rest are also enjoyable. My wife and I, our son and daughter-in-law, and our 8 year old grand-daughter just watched this on DVD last Saturday. We ALL laughed a LOT. (and for the right reasons)
