It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

The noisiest quiet film I've ever seen. Oren Moverman is like a conductor of an orchestra wherein the ceaseless sounds of city life and the all-enveloping silence of loneliness collide to create a thought provoking study into character, meaning, and priorities. Richard Gere, Ben Vereen and Kyra Sedgewick all perform perfectly with the dull shine of tarnished silver.

Life is even harder in real life but this movie does bring it to the screen. my first thought when reading the "critical" reviews what that people don't want to see the reality. these are mostly people that walk on by ignoring. Not all people who are homeless are mental ill. some that are fall deeper in. People in general don't like reality movies. I had read an article when it was released that people didn't recognize RG during filming. I have know many homeless people and have slept in my car several times lived in transient motels and worked whenever I could. The sad reality is that too many people in America live like this. the film was real.

A really very good evocation of what being on the streets must be like. The film drags and meanders - just as Richard Gere's character does. The aesthetic is very distinctive - the city's bustle by day and neon glare by night as a backdrop to the drab plight of the scruffy, direction-less Gere, while some of the framing is absolutely exquisite.I do think that Gere's good looks and charisma as an actor shine through a little too boldly - someone like John C. Reilly, for example, might have been a better choice for the main role - and there's the feeling that the ending, while heart-warming, might be a bit of a cop-out. But all in all, it's a very involving, eye-opening study.

Greetings from Lithuania."Time Out of Mind" (2014) won't win any big awards for Richard Gere, although it is a good performance, i sometimes struggled to believe him as a homeless man, he was much more superior in an overlooked great thriller drama "Arbitrage" - that was his best performance probably ever. That said he is good in "Time Out of Mind" in every scene, but it lacks the sense of the overall portrait of this man. Neveretheless this is a very solid character study drama. As in those movies it's all about the character, don't be surprised that almost anything really happens in "Time Out of Mind" - this movie is very slow, but i highly enjoy it. Urban setting is also kinda fresh and unique and i also loved the cinematography - look and see that there are many shoots of George through some windows, door glasses and etc. From inside - this is how we usually see homeless people on the outside - very good creative stuff.Overall, "Time Out of Mind" is surely not for everyone. This is a very slow moving picture, with one good performance, interesting setting and a true look at homeless man's life. This is not a mainstream movie, but at running time almost 2 h i was really involved into this movie.
