A Major Disappointment
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
I Am Number Four feels fresh and new. . .if you haven't already seen the dozens of movies just like it. This movie has some fun moments and a few cool visual effects, but it's pretty much cliche after cliche with a predictable storyline and cookie cutter characters. It's a harmless movie, though, and some people will really like it - I just wasn't one of those people.
The movie faithfully follows the formula of the strange kid who moves around too much to make friends. Dark backgrounds with fight scenes you barely see. Teen angst... teen angst... teen angst... Jocks picking on geeks and schools doing nothing... oh wait, that parts reality. Blah blah blah... What a waste of good actors. Oliphant is so much better than this movie. PLEASE Hollywood. FIND A NEW FORMULA or even better, SOMETHING ORIGINAL!!!!
This movie sucked in every way shape and form. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time watching this. I want a refund of 1 hour and 50 minutes of my life i wasted watching this.
This film isn't sci-fi either fantastic. Producers try to sell some alien toys to adolescent watchers. don't watch if you are not in between 15-18 ages. also main cast talk like amateur actors. and film contains more clichés than i ever imagined. best actor in this film is dog. and CGI make it worst
