As expected the second part of Death Note was astonishing. And I say as expected cause we get to see one of the most anticipated clashes of the film making industry.Don't tell me you are not interested in a clash not with guns and brute force just like any other movie. But instead a strategic battle is so much more enjoyable.Once again great acting, music, animations and generally everything is a job well done.I like how Misa stopped being the silly cry girl like in the anime version but truth is this way it really doesn't suit her to blindly follow Light in his doing. We are told about her "being in debt" to him but still being constantly ordered around wouldn't raise her ego at least a bit? Anyway it's a great film and if you've seen the first part(which I am most certain you have)it's a must see.

Following directly on from the first film, 'Death Note', this film continues the story of Light Yagami and his association with Ryuuk, one of the Gods of Death. Even longer and an even more complicated plot than the first one, this movie will really test your powers of concentration as you plough through 2 hours and 21 minutes of subtitles. It's worth it though because I enjoyed this one slightly more. Yes, it's way too long, but it's never boring with all those plot twists. I'll tell you more after this brief summary.Light Yagami has now infiltrated the team investigating the mysterious deaths of many criminals worldwide perpetrated by 'Kira'. The team is lead by a young genius who calls himself 'L'. Meanwhile, a young TV presenter, Misa Amane, is presented with a second Death Note book by another God of Death, Rem. She is a fan of Kira's work and decides to use the book to find him. Calling herself 'Kira II', she causes panic at a TV station and eventually Kira is revealed to her. She is in awe of him and the pair makes a pact and joins forces. Misa Amane has the ability to see a person's real name and Light wants to use this ability to discover the identity of his nemesis, 'L'. But is 'L' too clever for them? Well, I'll leave it there; with two 'Gods of Death' involved I don't want to take any chances with the Spoiler Police today.A really well made film but, again, the animation of the 'Gods' didn't look too great on TV; maybe it was better on the big screen. Decent performances all round, particularly from; Tatsuya Fujiwara as Light Yagami, Takeshi Kaga as Soichiro Yagami (his father), Erika Toda as Misa Amane and Ken'ichi Matsuyama as the eccentric genius 'L'.Again dealing with the subject of justice, I thought this film raised some very interesting questions. Although no real conclusions are drawn and it does tend to concentrate more on the characters than the issues it raises, I still found it an interesting watch. There is very much a fantasy element in the film, without which it could not have worked, and so be prepared to suspend reality for a while, but if you've watched the first film you'll already know this. Over all, I found it an intelligent fantasy crime drama with maybe a few too many plot twists and a tad over-long, but still quite enjoyable. Many threads from the first film are neatly tied up and so I'm happy to deem it… Recommended. My score: 7.9/10 IMDb Score: 7.4/10 (based on 5,103 votes at the time of going to press).

If you haven't seen the first 'Death Note' film then don't watch this until you do as it is the second part of the same story; no time is wasted introducing the characters or explaining what is going on. In the first story the police with the help of the mysterious L were hunting a killer they had dubbed Kira but the viewer knows to be Light Yagama; son of the police chief, as this starts a new Death Note appears at the feet of beautiful TV presenter Misa Amane just as the man trying to kill her dies of a heart attack. She decides to become 'Kira II' and sets about killing more criminals as well as anybody who is openly critical of Light. She engineers a meeting with Light and offers to help him kill L, however things don't go according to plan and she is captured. In a strange twist Light turns himself in claiming that he doesn't know for certain that he isn't Kira. While the two of them are in custody they give up their memories of what they did and the Death Note is passed on to another TV presenter. She quickly sets about killing and it looks as if Light and Misa are in the clear… or are they? This film was a good conclusion to the story with some nice twists that I failed to see coming. Erika Toda made a welcome addition to the main cast as Misa and Tatsuya Fujiwara and Takeshi Kaga continued to perform well as Light and L respectively. Along with another Death Note another god of death is introduced; Rem like Rauk he is a CGI creation but also looks pretty good. If you saw the first film you really should see this as you'll only have seen half the story if you don't.

This film has it's flaws. What I liked most about this film is that it gave you a different ending then the anime. The beginning of this film follows the anime pretty well minus some action, and some characters and their sexes were changed. What bugged me though was how careless Light was. He seemed so much more insane yet dumber then in the anime. Honestly the story could of been much better then it was but still it was an interesting take on the story. The acting wasn't very good. The only believable characters in comparison to the anime were Mr. Yagami and L. L was a real joy to watch in live action. If all else see this movie just to see him and how eccentric he really is. So if you like seeing all angles of a story then this is a good movie to see. The different ending makes it worth watching.
