The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Thank you paulsandberg from United States and Anthony Dunn from Denver, Colorado. Reading the first few reviews of this film made me think I'd been watching a different "Cellular" movie. But no, I was right. This really WAS such a bad movie and all the previous and ridiculous reviews praising it and saying how wonderful and exciting it was were clearly written by friends / partners / husbands / wives / (you get the idea) of the producers / director / cleaner (you get the idea), etc.I could only stand it for 25 minutes and gave up when he "got cut off by a bus".I liked the way all the girls at the beach were about 18 to 25, single, perfect bodies, without any guys, totally available and ready to talk to anyone. I mean, this is so much like real life. And when he jumped in his car, parked right there on the beach road, where no one else wanted to park... so much like real life.Just don't waste your time on this nonsense.

In the opening scenes of this thriller a group of heavies break into Jessica Martin's house, shoot the maid then kidnap her. They take her to another location and lock her in a room, the group's leader smashes the wall mounted telephone with a sledgehammer. They demand that she gives them what they are after but she has no idea what they are talking about. Jessica then tries desperately to get a connection with the shattered phone; eventually she connects to Ryan, a total stranger, who understandably believes it is a hoax but eventually agrees to take the cell phone to the police. He gives the basics of the story to desk sergeant Mooney before he is called away. Mooney tells him to take his report to homicide but before he can he hears the kidnappers threatening Jessica; now he knows in is no hoax; they threaten to harm her son so once alone again she asks Ryan to get to his school first. He is just too late and gives chase. What follows is a series of events that involve Ryan trying desperately to keep Jessica on the line as first the battery nearly dies then he gets a crossed line with another cell phone user. Each time it looks as if he is getting somewhere the bad guys are just a step ahead until Ryan gets his hands on what they were after. Meanwhile Sgt Mooney decides to follow up the kidnapping report and makes a shocking discovery about the kidnappers. If you are looking for serious drama then you are in for a disappointment but if you just want to put your brain in neutral for ninety minutes you could do a lot worse than this. The action starts in dramatic style and barely lets up until the closing credits begin. The plot is pretty far-fetched so requires a good ability to suspend ones disbelief… what are the odds that a random connection would link to a cell phone that happened to be in the same city as you?! That is just the first unlikely event… thankfully before one has much time to worry about it the action begins; this is pretty exciting and at times genuinely tense. There is also a fair amount of unforced humour; the best of this when Ryan steels a lawyer's shiny blue Porsche… twice! The cast does a solid enough job; Chris Evans is likable as the apparently unreliable Ryan, Kim Basinger does a decent job as Jessica, William H. Macy is good in the role of Sgt Mooney and Jason Statham is suitably menacing as the main villain of the story. There is a nice twist involving the identity and motivation of the kidnappers that I won't spoil even though it doesn't come all that late in the film. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anybody wanting a not-too-serious action film; it was definitely better than I'd expected.

"Cellphones, how does this newfangled invention work?" That seemed to be the level of understanding and thought put into the script for this movie, which is riddled with more logic and plot holes than Swiss cheese. Assuming you can put your brain on hold for 90 minutes and don't care about suspension of disbelief, then CELLULAR might entertain you. If not, it's probably best to just stay away. The basic plot is about this woman (Kim Basinger) who is kidnapped for some reason (to say why would be a plot spoiler). While in captivity she is somehow able to use a wall phone that got smashed to make a random call in the hope that she might be rescued. The random person who answers is played by Chris Evans and he has to stay on the phone or else the woman will probably die. For me, this film had a very flimsy, ridiculous premise. Often, cell phones in movies have little to no signal when the plot calls for it, but CELLULAR goes too far in the other direction. Seriously, with all of the obstacles that Chris Evans' character comes across there's no way that his phone, much less one made in the early 2000's, could have withstood everything that happens in the film. Still, the film was fitfully entertaining. Most of the performances were adequate for this kind of brainless action film. Chris Evans shows off a little of the chops that he would later use as Steve Rogers, but he was saddled with the rather thankless task of carrying a film where he's on his cellphone almost the entire time. Kim Basinger was OK, but she isn't really given much to do except be the damsel in distress. Even character actor William H. Macy has a supporting role, but he's given even less to do. Most of his part consists of being the butt of jokes revolving around a day spa he wants to start after retiring from the force. He does get a little more to do in the finale, but only through sheer luck. The two best parts of this movie were actually two bit players, Lin Shaye and Rick Hoffman, who provide the funniest moments. From a technical standpoint, however, the film was better than average. The cinematography was decent, and the action was fairly well shot. It's just a shame that this was in service of such a dumb movie. To be honest, I wasn't expecting Shakespeare or anything, but I would have liked something a little more intelligent. By no means a "good" movie, there still was enough entertainment value that my time wasn't completely wasted.

Somewhat disappointing thriller. Let's start with acting.Chris Evans was OK as this kid who gets a cell phone call and decides he's finally going to think about somebody other than himself. He does OK, nothing great.Kim Basinger did her best to carry her part, but really, all she was asked to do was cringe and cower and cry and get beaten up. Really not much depth in her character.Jason Statham plays a snarly bad guy who likes smashing things and people, and talking cute before he bashes you in the mouth. SOP for him, so nothing special.William Macy saves what little day there was in this movie by his excellent job as a long-in-the-tooth cop who is on his last roundup and wants to go quietly into the Spa business until this case pulls him in. Kind of like that moving Michael Douglass, against the cop Robert Duvall in Falling Down. Anyhow, love Macy. The plot is somewhat OK - you keep wondering why are these guys doing this. They you find out. Then all sorts of chase scenes happen and the movie ends. OK, not much there. A lot of chase scenes and talking on the cell phone. made in Hollywood, by Hollywood.so so, IMHO. I like Evans much more as Captain America later on in his movie career. Enjoy.
