Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Steven Seagal's direct-to-video movies have been on something of a downward spiral as of late, so it's nice to see a film that finally takes a step in the right direction. MERCENARY FOR JUSTICE is no masterpiece by anybody's reckoning, but it's nevertheless a slick, action-packed thriller that doesn't take itself too seriously, while at the same time offering up a number of humorous supporting characters, a little welcome comedy and plenty of bangs for your bucks. Seagal himself presides over things, looking surprisingly distinguished in a suit, but bloated and aged elsewhere. At least fans can be thankful that he doesn't have somebody else dubbing his voice this time around (as in the likes of TICKER) and we do get to see him take part in some fun fight scenes, displaying his trademark aikido moves. Elsewhere a body double steps in as Seagal's character runs across some rocks, but we can forgive that. The plot is typically convoluted, but then you wouldn't expect anything else from this kind of movie. There are double and triple crosses, lots of nefarious bad guys, and some MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE style intrigues in bank vaults. One thing the film has in its favour is some great, stylish camera-work, done well on the low budget – if you can call a multi-million dollar budget a low budget – and strong, inspired direction. The script is mundane but there are some great supporting characters who steal Seagal's limelight; newcomer Jacqueline Lord is devilishly attractive as the heroine of the piece, while BLADE II's Luke Goss plays a corrupt government agent with typical aplomb. Roger Guenveur Smith's performance is less assured as another villain – I can't decide whether he's good or bad – and South African Adrian Galley steals all his scenes as a beefy bodyguard with a nice line in humour. The action is fun and varied, ranging from war action at the beginning (great) to a house-under-siege at the end, reminiscent of THE KILLER. Between then there are some cool fights, including a battle between Seagal and a goon in a bathroom that is really painful to watch. Necks and arms are broken with relish and blood spatters everywhere once the shooting starts. The title is somewhat amusing, seeing as Seagal goes about gunning down policemen and SWAT team members without blinking an eyelid; yet we're still supposed to identify 100% with this 'hero'. All in all, MERCENARY FOR JUSTICE is a film more entertaining than it has any right to be, and a real treat for Seagal fans who thought the actor had lost his way.

My dad bought a DVD of this. As I read your comments, YOU ARE ALL RIGHT. It's not the Seagal movie what I expected to be. The opening sequence is too plain. Compared to Hollywood blockbusters, who had very striking opening sequences with too much graphics. I felt pity for for the French ambassadors family who was blown away in a truck just like that. & WORSE, at end part was like, "THAT'S IT??" What I only like is the character of the villain Anthony Chapel. His personality & the way he talk is pretty annoying. But it suits better for the movie. Steven Seagal was my favorite martial arts superstar. But it shows in 2006, he already grown old & gone bloated. Now that Sylvester Stallone called to join "Expendable 3", I hope he lose some weight for his next movie.

With a face of a stupid lion, a twice as much his old weight, a monster of a hair, and not much Aikido to perform STILL Steven Seagal is making movies as long as there are millions of idiot people who keep watching him. However – with this condition – what's left to be watched in the first place ?!!! After promising, yet short, beginning, he became a never-ending disappointment. Really movies come and go, good or bad, but he's in much worse case as he aged. Now watching him is one definition of frustration. Whether his recent movies have attractive points or not, be sure, dear Seagal is having zero acting talent, zero funniness, and zero charisma, transforming from the master of Aikido, into the waster of Aikido! Enough with the Seagal. (Mercenary for Justice) isn't a bad movie. On the contrary it got kind of smart plot. A revenge story, a bluff heist, a hostage situation. The cinematography is fair, unlike what you see in the usual Seagal, or the "V", movies. The action is good, in fact above mediocre according to the intro's sequence. But while a lot of elements are smart, there is certain stupidity that fills everything.Seagal radiates dumbness. He acts as indifferent person, but this is the most horrible, most laughable version of Humphrey Bogart I've seen, being rarely an actor who acts an indifferent character indifferently ! So how about being so out of shape lead in an action as well ?! Honestly he looks like the worst parody of himself !I won't say that the heroine is untalented since the role demands no acting, but she looked unattractive, provocatively unattractive to an extent pushed me to look away the screen sometimes (while there was astonishing healthy blond in the start who wasn't utilized AT ALL !). The bad guys were between uncharismatic and semi-buffoon. This movie isn't funny or tries to be; there is just one one-liner delivered horribly by Seagal near the end (whether the directors of his movies don't dare to tell him "please act", or they just despaired !). And there are some dumb points : the camera's shadow is so clear on the car's glasses, Seagal mimics (John Turturro)'s sudden sneaking moves of (Mr. Deeds – 2002) when he gets out the evil guy's car to a running van in nanosecond totally unseen!! At least there weren't many of these points. If you can forget Seagal then it's fair time. FYI in 7 years (from 2001 to 2008) SS made 20 movies plus one he was guest star in it to spoof himself (The Onion Movie)! So what that can tell you about him ? 1) God help the V movies' viewers. 2) Although I'm not a fan of SS but I want his job ! 3) The guy is so frank when it comes to evaluate his real talent and silly persona ! Finally, he's a different experience of torment ! Just watch his movies to know how god is so generous, providing everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, with the means of subsistence. Even the ones who don't do their own job !

I was confused when I ran across this on the hotel TV (with no guide screen on the cable). Steven was looking a little older, so it had to be recent, but the cars belonging to these allegedly super-rich villains were all 10-20 years old, so what the heck was it? This came out in 2006? No way. Big budget there -- just scan the local classifieds for $2500 cars. Even TV shows don't stoop that low.I guess that doesn't have much to do with the movie, except this level of quality and attention to detail carries over to the script, acting, everything. You notice things like this when there are no interesting characters to follow, no coherent plot, and the dialog hurts your ears. There is nothing of merit in this movie. Seagal should cut his losses and go do commercials -- they would offer him more dignity. I hope they let him keep one of those 1988 Benzes.
