The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I started watching this. And I wasn't sure what to expect based on the name, but for some reason I am not surprised. The beginning of John Dies At The End is excellent. It grabs the audience and they are now with the film whether they like it or not. It is capturing and effective. Amazing. It is clear from the very beginning, that this is a movie with really cool cinematography: it is detailed and the colours are excellent. It is also clear from the beginning that this movie is going to be a wild trip. First the film seems like it's going to be a regular "ghost buster", "monster hunter" type of story. But then it wasn't, when the weird dimension changing drug soy sauce is introduced. And since they first started using the drugs - wow. The effects are weird and they go well with the story. They affect the viewer same way the film Smiley Face does - you feel like you are high too, even though you haven't taken anything. I can't imagine what it would be like to watch these films while one's high. The humour in this film is very absurd, but the film is absolutely hilarious.John Dies At The End is definitely the weirdest film I've ever seen. I'm still not sure what to make of it - should I make some theories or should I take it for as it is? I have no idea.

This is easily one of the best movies I ever saw in 2015. It's intelligent , with extremely well-written dialogue, as well as memorable characters, amazing production values, skillful directing and editing, beautiful special effects, and very solid acting from actors who, despite not being overwhelming famous, are still highly talented and do very well to create an atmosphere in this film.My only complaint with this film is sometimes it gets too bizarre and trippy, almost as if you had to consume cannabis or LSD to fully appreciate the weirdness of it.Overall, a very good film on every level, highly underrated, and definitely one I would recommend to all, particularly those who appreciate surreal and thought-provoking films.8/10

Watched this film last night on Netflix. I knew nothing about it - but thought it had a good name and looked a bit unusual. The name is nothing compared to how crazy the film is. Totally surreal but not so much that you can't follow what's going on, and really funny too. All the parts are brilliantly acted, well directed, so glad I picked it to watch. Reminded me a bit of evil dead with a touch of Cronenberg. The scene with the Moustache is worth watching the film for all by itself. It is a film that definitely doesn't take itself too seriously (it could almost be a fantasy horror sci-fi spoof) but is still seriously good

This terrific, bizarre comedy is not necessarily something one can explain to the uninitiated. Most simply it is a story of two guys who deal with supernatural phenomenon, with the movie mainly focused on how they started out. The movie is done in the form of a horror/monster movie, although it's not especially horrific and gory. It does, however, offer exciting and surprising moments.I found myself comparing it with one movie and then ten minutes later thinking it was more like a different one. The slackers dealing with the supernatural made me think of Ghostbusters. The special-effects-laden comedy made me think of Army of Darkness. The intricate, twisting concepts threaded through involving time and reality made me think of Inception. The bugs and hallucinogenic quality are sometimes reminiscent of Naked Lunch. (If I have to compare it with a single movie, I'm inclined toward Army of Darkness.)It's a fascinating and original movie. The only film I've seen previously by the director, Don Coscarelli, was the (IMHO) overrated Bubba Ho-Tep, and his earlier film don't sound appealing to me (nor do his next couple, yet another Phantasm movie and a Bubba sequel), but I sincerely hope he's optioning the sequel to John Dies at the End because I would love to see something similar to this.
