It is about motives. About loyalty, and how that fades away given the right amount of wrongdoing. It is about seizing opportunity against the odds. Looking for that spark of hope to hold on to. Yes, it all ends well, it ís Hollywood after all. But this movie manages to hold on to that gloom of despair for a long time, and shows that it is not all sunshine after the clouds have gone. It shows in the end that human existence is short of one main ingredient only; the time spent with loved ones. There is a heist in here, there is a cop, some villains and a forgery. It's entertainment, and not the main subject of this movie. Well shot, well lit, with ample telling silences. I liked it a lot. I liked the characters a lot, I liked Travolta acting, especially when he acts alongside his "son"

I know this film is dated 2014 and we're in 2016. I just saw it a couple of months ago; but now that I have, it's such a pleasure to watch the pros do their stuff. And man, they do it in this movie! Each and every one of the cast is to be commended! I love the entertainment industry because of actors like John Travolta, Christopher Plummer and that wonderful young actor, Tye Sheridan, who was perfect as Will Cutter, and the beautiful Jennifer Ehle as the mother.I didn't find this story the least bit boring at all. I'm such a sap when it comes to the emotional scenes as well. Maybe it's partly because of my Italian heritage. But the scene between Raymond and Will where they're at the beach and Raymond says perhaps they should travel to Fiji and other places, and Will says nothing at that moment and stares at his father. Then Raymond actually looks at his son and realizes that he may not last that long. But the look on Tye's face and then to see John Travolta's beautiful blue eyes fill up with tears, just touched my soul and spirit like never before. John Travolta has a way of touching my heart like no other actor can. Awesome!Bravo to the writer, Richard D'Ovidio, and Phillip Martin, the director. With all the junk that's out there, one can take pleasure in knowing we've got good writers and directors and actors who can really deliver!!! He can play any role you hand him. I loved him in Broken Arrow as the bad guy. He has the perfect expressions and/or gestures in his film, especially when the missile was aimed right at him--yeah, 'come on, bring it, baby'! Boom! LOL! He's one of my favorite actors.I was floored by Jennifer Ehle's performance as the mother, Kim. I could feel her uneasiness to meet her son--when at the restaurant she left to go to the restroom, I was thinking, oh, no, she's leaving period! But she didn't. Jennifer's delivery was nothing less than excellent! She had a small part but it was quite effective! Christopher Plummer, a veteran actor, is without a doubt one of the best performers out there! I'm sorry I can't name everyone but to the entire cast I say, well done; very well done! Great all around film. Ten stars from me!!!

In overall, I liked the movie. It certainly has some shortcomings in my opinion. I think the pace of movie is slow and the story is straight forward with a happy ending. The latter may not be considered as a disadvantage, however did not satisfied me fully. The act of most characters other than Anson Mount is good, specially Christopher Plummer was a good match to this type of story. This picture that a man trying to spend his time with his child with cancer is indeed a touching picture, but involving him in criminal affairs do not seem like a realistic story. However, think that director has done a good job in showing how their life changes. I personally liked this part.

John Travolta looks much older in a very mature performance regarding payback to a thief who was able to get him out of prison earlier so that he could spend time with his dying 15 year old son.It is heartbreaking how Travolta grants his son's wish by getting his mother, a drug addict, to see him. That day they shared together was poignant as the boy guessed his mother's affliction. There is a gem of a performance by Christopher Plummer, as Travolta's father. Parting from his usual urbane performances, Plummer is common and quite used to using profanity in each of his sentences. How the 3 guys unite in working on the forgery and turning the tables on the guy who demanded payback was thrilling to say the least.
