The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Medical student Herbert West has just started studying at Miskatonic University in Arkham, Massachusetts having previously studied in Switzerland. He believes that he has developed a serum that can re-animate the dead! He lodges in the basement flat of fellow student Dan Cain and soon Cain and his girlfriend Megan, the Dean's daughter, are caught up in West's experiments. First he just re-animates a cat but soon he and Cain are re-animating a human being. It doesn't go well and the patient gets violent and the Dean is killed. They re-animate him and he is taken into the care of senior doctor, and lecturer, Dr Carl Hill. Hill figures out what has happened but rather than inform the authorities he decides to steal West's work... things then get really gory!This classic of the horror genre is somewhat over looked compared to other films of the era which is a pity... although I suspect most fans of the genre will have seen it. There are plenty of gory moments and quite a few laughs. The special effects are impressive; especially this involving a character who is reanimated after being decapitated and continues to function with head and body separate. The story itself might be a bit silly but that doesn't matter as it moves at a good pace so the viewer doesn't dwell on such details. The cast, particularly Jeffrey Combs who plays West, does a fine job making their characters believable even in the more extreme situations. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of the genre; especially those who like a few laughs with their gore.

80's are definitely golden era for B production gore horror. And this is one of the brightest examples. Based on Lovecraft and painfully stupid. Although I had awesome time watching it, I can not rate it higher than 5,5/10. But last 15 minutes, and especially the scene in which sweet sexy Meg is sexually abused by severed head, deserve straight 10. Scene is hilarious. :D5,5/10 for movie overall9/10 for last 15 minutes10/10 for naked Barbara Crampton and David Gale's head

Re-animator can be considered to be a part of many genres. It does meet the definition of a cult film, a horror film, a sci-fi film and even a comedy film. The movie has a somewhat similar plot to that of Frankenstein. But instead of creating a monster from virtual scratch, a young medical student named Jeffrey Combs is motivated to bring dead corpses back to life. He quickly becomes friends with another medical student, whose girlfriend's father just happens to be a doctor. The re- animations do not go well at first, the revived corpses are not able to think clearly and they try to kill him. This movie is has a solid R- rating and it is one of the most graphic and gory movies I have ever seen. This movie takes on gore like the movie The Evil Dead with the main goal of making it so gory that it is humorous. Jeffrey quickly moves from re-animating animals to re-animating people, even though they are not quite the same re-animated as they were when they were alive. The corpses are re-animated by injecting a needle with green serum into the back of the head, sometimes with highly violent results. Then the movie gets odd and humorous giving i it's cult and comedy rating. A re- animated corpse tries to rape a girl but his severed head cannot do it. The same corpse with the severed head tries to control it's body and it crashes into things. I did enjoy this movie, it was a very unique movie and it was very fun to watch. But however, I would not recommend this film to those who do not like graphic movies. The movie was a very pleasant surprise and it is very funny.
