This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

I don't understand why this film received so many favorable reviews. It had an original storyline but there was no fascinating development to it. It was entertaining to some degree but a lot of the subplots were underdeveloped. The affair between Dani (the main character's sister) and the Irish guy was interesting enough because of the gap of physical attractiveness between Dani and her husband. It was resolved in a really hasty way though. The wife did not say or do enough to convince me that the husband really wanted to come back to her. The subplots on the whole felt like something a person would watch on TV.I also don't think Lake Bell is that good looking. Her high opinion of her looks showed a bit in how she was trying to make herself look so much prettier than the character Nancy. The character Jamie (Alexandra Holden) was really attractive in my opinion. I did not find it very realistic that a girl like her would play that part. Her character reminded me of an old woman. The ending also seemed rushed as though it needed more time to unfold. It would've been better if Bell allowed more tension and build-up before the end.

In a world, an independent bold movie that effectively challenges the status quo of gender in our society. It is thought provoking and gives the audience a fresh perspective which can be an eye opener for some. The lead actress, Lake Bell, plays as Carol in the movie. Carol faces many challenges as she climbs her way to be the first woman to utter the famous words "In a world." Throughout those challenges, Carol never ceased to fight the good fight. The movie elegantly proves the point that our society continues to be male predominant and puts woman as second class. Carol, through her feminist views challenges that status quo and teaches us that not only woman can support feminism but also men can have a role as portrayed by her boyfriend actor Demetri Martin playing Louis.

Slacker girl competing in the Hollywood movie-trailer voice-over business finds herself up for the plum role against her father's protégé.Great idea, bogged down by chatty Jewish family melodrama. The intro credits are so plain, when they should have shown the breadth of entertainment and competition that goes with this kind of art.Beautifully shot, nice performances - but no laughs. Just a very conservative screenplay that failed to use the idea and try different angles - the only character to create tension was the father, and he ended up sappy. Geena Davis popped up on a sour note, and the thing is ... she was right: the male voices were much better than the heroine's. But the story didn't really reflect on this fact. The soundtrack? Nothing challenging or dramatic, and the songs were '80s cheese.Overall, too cosy a romantic comedy.

lake bell is one of the few underrated actresses out there who can do wonders if the script is solid but this time she he writes, directs & starts in this comedy about voice overs in movie trailers.bell's direction is great she keeps it cinematic but the topic she chooses is totally dingy the characters never really develop the chemistry here at all i kept my expectations high for some witty strong dialogs but none of that comes now if we just look at the story lake bell plays a role of carol a girl who wants to be in the voice dubbing business she loves doing voice-overs on film trailers but her father does not approve this a bit.the voice dubbing acts hardly appear for few moments but most of the film is about the dysfunctional family, friends & affairs etc the film went off topic & never made a return to the root subject. The entire cast gets wasted here but Michaela Watkins performance is worth checking out & what the hell were Eva Longoria & Geena Davis doing here making a special appearance as for Lake Bell she is as usual stunning but problem is she really cant give her best here as she does in her other movies.it feels like lake bell really took the burden of directing on herself & forgot to add much variety & fun in her own character as well as the script she created a room for other actors but left herself out.the genre don't seem like comedy at all its more like a drama or a Rom-com as each an every scene gives you that vibe. Overall In A World 2013 is a disappointment without a doubt Lake Bell is a fantastic artist but i really hope her next directorial effort brings the best if she ever picks up the camera again my rating is 3/10.
