Good movie, but best of all time? Hardly . . .

I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

Oh wow.Where to start?Awful plot, so bad and cringeworthy that it is not worthy of the term plot. There are the lame jokes which we expect, the prat falls which we also expect. What is missing is any sense of narrative.this is ninety minutes of my life I cannot get back..Don't bother.

Worst. Film. Ever.Quite simply an abomination of the original film and TV series. Not a single laugh was had in the films 90+ minutes.Room full of extended family, settling down to watch a film together during the festive period ... and this is what we ended up with.We had more laughs ripping the film to pieces than the film itself provided. Why did the likes of Nighy, the Jones' and Gambon sign up to this? Did they not see the script? Some classics like this just should not be re-made.

This is a film version of a famous and funny TV series of the same name. In the last war the home guard consisted of mainly older men protecting Britain's shores: the series and now this movie portrays their comical adventures.Unfortunately most of the characters in the movie version are inferior clones of the series. The making of this movie seems to have been rushed. A script that is mostly poor and unfunny and I could not wait for the picture to end.In the TV series what made it so amusing was the strong interplay between the main male players. The lead actors wife was talked about but never seen nor were female recruits visible if at all. The film makers have ruined the picture by failing to give us a picture that does justice to the original series.2 and a half, rounded up =3/10

Well my assumption is Dad's Army was meant to be a comedy however it took me 1 Hour 27 Minutes to get my one and only laugh. The best bit was right at the end if you could physically make it that far. A big fan of the original series I was worried about this from the start then seeing the poor reviews and it actually being pulled from showing in my country I had to wait till I could see it online the cheapest was possible. The main problem really with this film is leaving well enough alone. What was a fantastic show with its original cast had no hope of being replicated. However the casting process did come close two some of the characters and I do mean some. Annoyingly others were added in for no real need EG Mrs Manwaring who has not left the home in the series. I do give the show points it's not a complete dud but I am glad I did not waste much on it. Nice try but so far from the mark it makes one reflect on what the original gave. I will add here that giving away the main protagonist (spy) so early destroyed the mystic. This scene was visited more times than needed or could have been filmed in a way that hit the identity.
