The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Dylan Dog (Brandon Routh) is a New Orleans detective who deals with supernatural creatures. Marcus (Sam Huntington) is his assistant. Elizabeth (Anita Briem) tries to hire him to investigate his father's murder but he refuses. He recognizes it as a werewolf attack. He tries to work with vampire leader Vargas (Taye Diggs). Marcus is killed by a werewolf.I like the concept of this supernatural world loosely adopted from an Italian comic book. I don't really like Routh as this character. He's more of a pretty face with comedic leanings. He needs to be more of a hard-boiled tough detective. The budget is also not big enough for its goals. It looks more like a B-movie. The action could be better. Overall, I like the concept but the execution is not great.

"Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" could easily be compared to a movie on the SyFy channel. The visual effects were lackluster, and the chemistry between actors was inadequate. However entertaining, "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" is like a dessert that had been prepared with every ingredient imaginable. We all know the outcome will not taste good. Overall, besides the near constant creature violence and disturbing imagery, there is some rough language sprinkled throughout the script, a comparatively mild sex scene. The movie's weird, and at times morbid - sense of humor is out of place and is probably better written on the page of a comic book. There are several reasons why the film did not do good in box offices, one being that not many people had ever heard of this character and there were a select few that had read the comics or had heard of him through the advertising (honestly, this film's advertisements didn't do it any justice) who had gone to the theaters to see this. Another reason being the fact that Brandon Routh really needs to consider re-entering acting school or something, because every single movie I've seen him in I have regretted seeing. I came apron this film on Netflix instant (I own an Apple TV). It was categorized under super-hero films, I had seen the advertisements, and heard critic's and fan's mixed reviews, so I decided to check it out. Honestly, It wasn't a waste of time, so therefore I think it's underrated by critics, however it definitely had room for improvement (as do many movies). I believe that my rating is accurate - it doesn't deserve anything above or below a 6/10.

I am a huge Dylan Dog fan. I started reading the comics since I was 10, and if anyone who is a DD fan is considering watching this film, don't do it. Just don't. Do yourself a huge favor and don't. There is no Gruco, there is no inspector Bloch, and the story is set not in London, but in New Orleans. Oh, and even the color and type of his car is wrong. For crying out loud it's like they were trying to do everything wrong. I have no idea how Sclavi didn't put veto on this.Everything about this film is wrong. They succeeded in ruining a perfect story.

So just watched this movie and I have to say I don't understand all the negative reviews about it. Maybe that's because I am a former fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and in all it's essence, this film is just like that TV series. Cheesy, camp, over the top and just fun. That's all it is, fun. It's not scary but was it ever meant to be? I don't think so. Every scene seems to have been made with a touch of humour. What else could I say about it? OK, so maybe this is what Blade would have been if he had been a metrosexual. Just put it on and have a good time. There is nothing that will make you say WOW, but do we always have to watch movies that are deep, clever and meaningful? No, sometimes it's good to just watch a fun movie. Acting, well if over the top is a style, then that is what they where doing here. Action scenes where OK, but nothing more than you would get in the aforementioned Buffy. FX??? Makeup was cool on some of the monsters but again, nothing spectacular. I've given it a 6/10 and for me that's not bad. Sit back, chill out, enjoy and everyone stop being so serious.
