I was a little skeptical about this movie going in, but since I am becoming a growing fan of Australian films these days, and because I just can't ever resist Jessica De Gouw, I thought I'd give it a shot. And I was handsomely rewarded! The story starts with an oncoming asteroid/comet/fireball that is due to hit and obliterate Earth, and the accompanying countdown to the end of life as we know it. All of humanity is aware it is coming, and there is nothing that can be done about it. James (Nathan Phillips) is leaving Zoe (Jessica De Gouw) in bed (idiot!) to travel accross town to attend the party to end all parties. This begins a tale which is sometimes touching, sometimes crazy, and sometimes terrifying. The imagery is beautiful throughout, and the film offers a unique vision of how humanity would spend it's last 12 hours on Earth, culminating nicely with a very tender and loving moment between Phillips and DeGouw. This is a good film...it keeps you focused the entire time, and sews itself up nicely in the end, which to me, is the sign of good storytelling.Special shoutout to Angourie Rice, who does a great job of playing a little girl who is simply trying to find her father, and in the end helps James come to his senses and return to Zoe.Another great job by the Australian film industry!

What a film! Minimal budget but you wouldn't know it. Mad Max meets Leon The Professional meets Romeo and Juliet. Riveting from start to end. This is one of those rare films you will want to watch again. As a New Zealander born and bred, I have to admit our big brother Australia has raised the stakes. Yet again. Which can only be good. Great film. Watch it if you get the chance. You won't be disappointed. Jx

The end of the World is nigh and the people of Perth have been told they have a mere 12 hours to sort out their affairs. James is a bit self absorbed and has had a life mainly dealing with his own wants – though he is not a bad person. But as destruction approaches he is told of the party to end all parties and so heads off across a town where all semblance of law and order has broken down to get his rocks off.Along the way he comes across a seven year old girl, Rose, who has been split up from her father and, reluctantly, he decides to help her. The path to the reunification with her father takes him on his own path to find what truly matters to himself. Now this is a film with a simple plot but it is cram full of things that make it stand far out from the crowd. The acting is superb and Rose played by Angourie Rice is excellent and so are all the supporting crew. The cinematography is subtle but brilliant and the special effects are completely believable. The real strength is the story and the underlying emotions that are rumbling along like the clouds of destruction that act like an urban soundtrack as the film nears its conclusion. This is a film you will remember you will talk about and may even want to see again – it is that good – highly recommended.

I watched this on Netflix this evening and I was very impressed! The story, characters, and acting were all superb. It's a movie that will cause you to think about what you would do in a similar situation, and one that will hold your interest throughout. The lead actor did a great job. You get to see his character going through a positive transition throughout the movie, hoping to give some real meaning and purpose to his last days. The subject matter is not very uplifting but I did find myself going through a range of emotions as the character goes from one situation to the next. With each, you think you know what he will experience and how he will react, but often you will be surprised. Again, this is an excellent movie, which is hard to find on Netflix these days.
