Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

This horror remake movie is pretty predictable and it's so-so in quality. There are moments where the film is moderately entertaining and there are some fun times, but unfortunately they are far and few in between. The acting is pretty typical for this kind of film, it's not horrible but it certainly isn't that good lol. I really try not to be too hard on these kind of movies and truth be told I do enjoy some of these type of movies, but this one is not one I'd recommend unless you've already seen better ones. Lacey Chabert is pretty good in it, I've always liked her as an actress and Katie Cassidy is also pretty good as the star. And when I say pretty good I mean she didn't completely stink it up. I did really like Andrea Martin as the host mom of the sorority, she is a great actress and I liked just seeing her here, sure she didn't have a lot of good dialogue, but it was nice just to have her in the cast. I liked seeing the background and horrid childhood of the killer(s) and why they turned out to be completely crazy murderers. I didn't like how far they took some of the gore, sometimes it just simply got too graphic, I mean enough with the eyeballs lol. Overall I'd say to those looking for a good entertaining horror movie: there are worse scary movies out there to watch, and there are certainly ones that are a hell of a lot better than Black Christmas (2006). 5/10.

First let me say I never heard of the original until this movie came out. When one of my friends told me to see the original, and pass this trash up. Well I took a chance and bought the original, it was money well spent. This re-make however is more comedy than horror. I did like how they had more of a back story of who Billy and Agnes are. They are related, but they are not brother and sister. The movie takes place in different stages in Billy's life, abused as a child and locked in the attic. The re-make of Black Christmas is not what I thought it would be. It is a let down to horror fans who love old-school horror. It is one of today's typical horror movies, gore, dumb chicks, and a weak plot. If you want to see a great Christmas scary movie rent the 1974 DVD of Black Christmas. It is a great movie and it will keep U guessing til the end on who might me the killer.

No one watching this could argue there is anything remotely resembling an original idea here. From the killers "motivations", to the method in which the victims are dispatched, we've all seen it before. It was a nice touch to have a back story told through flashbacks, but the emphasis there was on the disturbing scenes for the sake of shock, and not on explaining motivation, which we simply have to cobble together on our own. Despite this lack of information most will guess the killers identity before the end. Having one killer "unknown" while the other is seen committing his murders leaving no hint of mystery is a nice touch though. They got a lot of talented actresses to appear in this schlock, I can only assume they were all going through dry patches in their careers. From a technical point of view I can't fault it. Scenes are shot well, editing is good, but the cant make up for the overall feel of the movie, which is the afore mentioned lack of originality. I know this is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, and even stars one of the original actors, but the question I have is, did this film really need to be remade? I don't believe so, and I think it's a symptom of the lazy and over all lack of originality sweeping the American movie industry now. As a rule of thumb, I no longer bother with remakes or sequels when they come out and only see them later, if they get great reviews.

The travesty that is the Black Christmas remake is beyond mind-numbingly bad that it was painful to watch. There is a lot of stupidity shown by the characters with no development to them whatsoever. The plot is extremely predictable and just doesn't cut it to what the horror genre needs. Death scenes tried to be grotesque but it was a lot of splatter off scene techniques that required no creativity or decent special effects. The actresses in this movie had potential but the writing and directing was so dumbed down that didn't have a chance in putting forth reasonable roles that could be expected. I hated the back-story, the character's decision making, the kills, the script, the phone ring-tones (we get it, its Christmas), and especially the hospital scenes at the end. It's nearly the exact opposite of Clark's original masterpiece and is definitely a one and done view for a fan or horror.
