Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Relationships are never easy. It takes time, commitment and understanding to get past all the differences. And even then, not everything gets settled. Romantic comedies are not the easiest to represent realistically because not every story comes out with a happy ending. But for the most part every audience wants a satisfying ending and that's just how things are; even if it is cliché. That's really the only weak point of this film. And although, his filmography does not carry a strong history of showings, this looks like director Tim Story's strongest movie. There is just so much going for it in the writing that helps string along its characters. The title is based off of celebrity Steve Harvey's book of the same name and how Harvey's book helps a group of girls (and guys, later on) figure out how to be the better partner. The writers, Keith Merrymen and David A. Newman who wrote the screenplay for Friends with Benefits (2011) a year before, did a great job at connecting each story together and critically defining the various types of females and males and focusing on their pros and cons. Not only does this help open the audiences' eyes to what possibly they didn't know, but it also gives viewers a character to connect with, especially if they know what kind of individual they are when it comes to dating.Plus, each relationship story arc is given pretty much an equal amount of time for everything. No one gets the spotlight more than the other does, and that's perfect. And although, Kevin Hart is the most comical of the bunch, he too did not hog the spotlight and gave his fellow co- stars enough screen time of their own. Thank you Peter S. Elliot for doing a terrific editing job. I see that's why he was chosen to edit Iron Man 3 (2013) as well. The casting was well done too. There are multiple cameos from celebrities from music to sports. My favorite couple of the stories was Michael Ealy and Taraji P. Henson. Too cute. And it's because of the casting that the chemistry, emotion in the romance and comedy work. Each couple has their own funny and emotional moments that help define what each of the two lovers are going through and how it affects them. Making these scenes even more effective was composer Christopher Lennertz unreleased score to the film. Most of it contains jazzy tunes with a saxophone and guitar and it really adds to the down to earth laid back tone of the plot. Well done now if only he would release it.A movie containing multiple stories isn't the easiest to follow but this rom-com completely defies that claim. The actors do a wonderful job, the music is great and the story is written exceptionally well.

I'm glad I decided to watch Think Like A Man. It may be the funniest film of 2012 and the funniest romantic comedy in a long time. The cast, dominated by black actors, often works wonders. Comedian Steve Harvey decided to bring his 2009 book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man to the big screen. And it was a good decision. The setup is silly because the women in the film take Harvey's suggestions to heart but, surprisingly, it works very well. At its heart it's just a story about four couples who take a funny long time to realize they're in love. Their desire to win and outsmart is what complicates matters. The screenplay by Keith Marryman and David A. Newman is stale at times but the actors take it to another level with Tim Story's direction. Michael Ealy's "the Dreamer" and Terrence J's "the Mama's Boy" are both likable despite their flaws. Meagan Good's "the 90 Day Rule Girl" is funny and good-looking. Taraji P. Henson's "the Woman Who Is Her Own Man" is cool but loving when she needs to be. Romany Malco and Regina Hall are also funny and engaging. But, really, there isn't a weak link in the cast. Even Kevin Hart's loudmouthed Cedric isn't overplayed. Think Like A Man would have been a terrific film if the screenplay was better. Still, it's good as it is. The laughs keep on coming. By the end I was eager to watch it again. Therefore I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that a sequel, Think Like A Man Too, will be released in 2014, with the cast from the first film reprising their roles. Yes, it's an easy decision for me. I easily recommend Think Like A Man. Harvey, the filmmakers and the cast all did a good job.

I remember back quite a long time ago when "How Stella Got Her Groove Back", at work I mentioned that it was very enjoyable movie. My co-workers all said, "But that's a Black movie." To me, and obviously I'm White, a good movie is a good movie. This film -- "Think Like A Man" -- falls in that same category. It has a mostly Black cast, but to me it's just a good movie. Not as good as "Stella", but pretty darned good.As a date movie, it's not a perfect film, however. There are really 3 kinds of scenes in this film -- 1.) where the women are chatting about relationships; 2.) where the men are talking about relationships; and 3.) where the men and women are relating. Where the women are chatting about relationships...well, a little long on dialog. Yes, some dialog is needed in that area, but here it went on too long. The premise of the film is clever -- how different types men conduct their relationships. But it becomes sort of a war of the sexes until the men realize what they have lost. The cast is pretty good. Kevin Hart, a comedian, is pretty for his role as "the happier divorced guy". Terrence J as the "mama's boy" is quite charming. Jerry Ferrara who is still a kid at heart and can't quite make a commitment is very good. Michael Ealy, as "the dreamer", is probably the standout on the male side of the roster. Romany Malco, as "the player" is pretty cool. Steve Harvey as the author about a book about relationships ties the stories together. On the female side of the roster, the standout (isn't she always) is Gabrielle Union...one of the most beautiful women in films. Two guests show up -- unfortunately Chris Brown as an "ex"; he adds nothing to the film other than face recognition. And the always welcome Morris Chestnut. No, you don't need to be Black to enjoy this film. I did...and I'm a 63 year old White guy! A good film is a good film.

Yes, it's clichéd and predictable but that's not why you watch Think Like a Man. Like other movies of a similar mold such as, 'The Brothers' and 'The Best Man,' Tim Story's feature won't win any Oscar's nor will it break box office numbers but it will make you laugh and keep you entertained throughout. Chances are you may even know and relate to some of the characters. With a recognisable cast which play their roles well, combined with eye-candy (Megan Good) for both sexes along with a wealth of chuckles, Think Like a Man is a well executed film sure to leave you with a warm and content feeling. It's one that is worth watching either alone or even on a date….well, maybe.
