There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

Red Tails In war-torn Italy, 1944, the all-black 332nd Fighter Group are denied the opportunity for combat flying and relegated to routine patrols. Yet, due to the perseverance of Colonel Bullard Howard, they earn the chance to prove their worth. This is as close as you'll get to Episode VII," George Lucas has said about Red Tails, his long-cherished project about the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American fighter-pilot squadron. He's not wrong. Red Tails pitches a band of plucky rebels in inferior vehicles against a dastardly empire and packs it with all the patented Lucas trademarks a love of speed and action, moral certainty, cloth-eared dialogue, easy-to-grasp characters, idealised heroism to create an entertaining slice of Boy's Own adventure that never realises the full potential of its subject matter. Just as Star Wars is an upgrade of Flash Gordon serials, so Red Tails is a fighter-ace movie that 60-odd years ago might have been directed by Howard Hawks or Nicholas Ray it's actually directed by Treme/The Wire vet Anthony Hemingway . It's the kind of old-school adventure where pilots have nicknames like Lightning David Oyelowo , Easy Nate Parker and Smoky R&B star Ne-Yo, but upgrades the old miniatures-on-wire/stock footage combo for exciting digital dogfights, which mostly feel real and stirring. In this 1940s Top Gun, the Maverick is Joe 'Lightning' Little, a spirited turn from Oyelowo, taking chances in the air and on the ground, wooing an Italian senorita Daniela Ruah. Elsewhere, the flyers are a likable set of stock characters that could have done with more complexity. In the air, they never know fear or vulnerability; on the ground they can be reduced to a single phrase Drink Problem, God Fearing, Kid Who Becomes A Man that nearly makes this Hot ShotsPart Trois. It's an enjoyable, engaging enough romp, but it eschews the edges in the story. Debatably bigger than the Red Tails' fight in the air the Germans make Herr Flick look progressive is their battle against the entrenched racism of the US Air Force represented here by Terrence Howard vs. Bryan Cranston, but the depiction here lacks grit and gravitas; one moment they are barred from an officers' club, then, one successful mission later, they are welcomed with open arms. A fun B movie is a valid approach, but you can't help feel there were richer pickings to be had.

Why hate on the "RED TAILS'' movie if they was the first African American soldiers to successfully complete their training and enter the Army Air Corps and serve and protect our country. The movie was great for people to hate and say negative things about is very to me and for it to be an African American movie, it's hurtful to my culture. Red Tails tells you alot in what African Americans had to go through to have to fight racism. The moment in the movie that captures the spirit of the movie is when Lightning died, like that was the most upsetting scene to ever watch and also when he risk his life to kill that last plane takes alot for someone to do that. You have remember Joe Lightning Little was one of the brave pilots in the Tuskegee Airmen and he just loved to fly and the energy he had in putting his all into this air force was something special to remember about Lightning. The title Red Tails comes from the Tuskegee Airmen painting their plane tails red, that's how they got their nickname Red Tail Angels and it really stands out because they left a legacy that will forever be known. The director of the movie was a young brother named Anthony Hemingway and he did a lot of interesting tv series for an example "The Wire" and "The Under Ground." He had to be very passionate in during a serious movie like this and having a great success in it, the actors was great and it have you thinking that they are really the Tuskegee Airman by just how they play a big role in the movie. This movie is basically all about a crew of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program, having faced segregation while kept mostly on the ground during World War II. They risk their life out to fight and fly, they put their life on the line. Now in the movie it was a lot in what the Tuskegee Airmen had to go through in order to fly and serve their country. They was giving hand me down planes and basically treated them like trash all because they was African American but they give a lot of impact into this Aircraft and did every single thing that was giving but was not assigned to a mission until Colonel A.J Bullard had put his foot down for his pilots. Marty Julian goes by the nickname "Easy" was the leader of the Tuskegee Airmen, he was one of them people who put somebody he care about before himself and everytime they would fight, who would give them instructions in what's going down. Joe Little known as "Lightning" was the most brave and one of the best pilots ever because he was so confident in himself and he put his life on the line for a lot missions he had fought in. Main characters like Ray Gannon known as "Junior", Andrew Salem known as "Smokey", Samuel George known as 'Joker", David Watkins known as "Deke", and Declan Hall known as "Winky" played a big role in the fighting for their country, it was kind of a way in and way out situation.Something important that interested me about the movie was the message it gave me being a African American. The message was "Nothing's difficult. Everything's a challenge. Through adversity to the stars. From the last plane to the last bullet to the last minute to the last man WE FIGHT! WE FIGHT! We FIGHT!." What Marty Julian known as "Easy" was trying say was that being African American is not difficult because they got what they wanted and that was being able to fly and fight for his country, fighting and killing every single enemy is a challenge through the stars but it's going to take the last plane, bullet, minute, and man to do so. Lightning is the most intriguing character in the movie in my opinion and i have bring him up plenty of times in my essay but it's true, he is fascinating to watch. He makes you want to watch more and brings more excitement to the movie like you watching your favorite team win the super bowl, that's the spirit and enthusiasm he have as a person. I think both kids and adults would like it. The reason i say kids because it's not a boring movie so when kids see airplanes being blown up will make them want to watch more. Adults watching this movie and especially African American will love this movie because it tells a lot about us African Americans going through to fly and it's like them hateful white people thats talking smack on the user review doesn't know the meaning to the movie and just idiots saying the movie Red Tails is the worst. I've had seen a lot of crappy white movies that i've wasted my money on to go see in the movie theaters and i've felt the same way to them inconsiderate people. The movie was great movie, it was very entertaining and enjoyable to watch and it have a lot great scenes, i am very disappointed in what people had to say about this movie and people should be ashamed in themselves talking bad in such a substantial movie.

When I got my big-screen TV, the first thing I watched on it (to, you know, calibrate it) was Red Tails. The aerial combat scenes were amazing to watch...And yet, there was so much garbage as well! For one thing, the difference between .30-calibre (that is, 3/10ths of an inch) and 30mm (1.2 inches!) is utterly ignored - big bullets repeatedly do little damage, while little bullets do big damage! People die or don't die as the plot of the story demands, not according to logic. And everyone's a type - no one is a full-fledged, fleshed-out character, but instead they are all a type filling a spot on the roster. I'd still watch it again, if only to hear the head mechanic shout the line, "Did someone shoot a train at you?!" one more time. If you want the real story, The Tuskeegee Airmen is out there. If you want to take your brain out and put it in a box, try this one.

Too much greatness for fans of the B-17, too much greatness for winning WWII for the American, too much awesome for dog-fights, too much coolness for a call-back to 'the great escape'. I'm done here.... you don;t like this, I'm fine with that, however it;s a 10/10 as only Lucas can pull off.
