Four talented alien musicians are kidnapped by a record producer who disguises them as humans. Shep, a space pilot in love with bass player Stella, follows them to Earth. Reprogrammed to forget their real identities and renamed The Crescendolls, the group quickly becomes a huge success playing soulless corporate pop. what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

First thing first: I'm not an anime fan. At all. So I was skeptical when I first heard about this movie. But Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable. With that said, the movie isn't perfect by far. There are a few plot holes and the villain's motives aren't really clear, but to be fair they do a great job considering that there's no dialogue in it. I guess you could say that this is less of a movie and more of a series of animated music videos that happen to tell a story, but whatever it is, it's done very well. The characters are great, the animation is stellar, no pun intended, the plot has a nice undertone about the modern music industry, and do I even need to mention that Daft Punk's soundtrack rocks? It's just a lot of fun, so if you like anime or if you like Daft Punk, I'd recommend checking this one out. And let me tell you, if they ever make a sequel to this, I'd be first in line to watch it.(And no, I don't count Daft Punk's followup movie, Electroma, though believe me, I'll be reviewing that soon enough.)

people, i know you are going to beat me for this, but i have no shame in saying that interstella is the greatest animated film i have ever seen, and yes, i have seen ghost in the shell, akira, iron giant, and several other animated films i state this because the movie has no spoken diologe, all the characters emotions need to be expressed through facial expresions, or actions or showing stuff, or help by the great albem discovery, which serves as the back ground music to this film it is a great story, fantastic plot, and is my ultimate example of what you can do with animation it is surreal, and if you dislike techno or anime you will not like this, but if you truly love daft punk or anime, you must see this film sincerely, frankly ima person

Interstella 5555 is an experimental film by the House duo Daft Punk, about the abduction of an alien music group by an evil music executive bent on exploiting them. The story unfolds with the band's kidnapping, their transformation into "normal" human beings, and their eventual rescue by a fellow alien of their planet, who happens to be in love with Stella, the lone female of the group. There is no spoken dialog in the film. Instead, the entire score is set to Daft Punk's album "Discovery". Directed by Leiji Matsumoto, "Interstella 5555" is a fun and surprisingly involving story, with music to match. Each song blends seamlessly into the next segment, with the moods shifting from outrageously loud (Crescendolls), to depressingly somber (Nightvisions). Daft Punk fans will love Interstella, but I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for some high spirited fun, particularly anime fans, as the animation is excellent. In a generation where nudity and expletives rule the music scene, Interstella 5555 is a refreshing, and ultimately successful foray into Daft Punk's music. I really loved it and it's a shame that this little gem wasn't released in theaters, because the animation and sound would have been brilliant on the big screen.Look for an appearance of Daft Punk themselves during the awards ceremony.

I am surprised at the quality of the animation. I especially like the imagination during the kidnapping of the aliens and making them into the "Cresdentdolls". The music by Daft Punk, it is the exact album from Discovery(UK) 1997 is a great accompaniment to the story. I also like the quirky Golden Award nomination of the Daft Punk animated robots. The guitar spaceship is the sweetest mode of transportation anyone could've picked for this movie. The beat and harmony of "One More Time" and "Digital Love" makes the movie captivating beyond belief. I would recommend this movie to any tech-no fans, anime enthusiasts or anyone tripping on acid.
