SKIN TRADE is a real surprise: a recent Thai action thriller that doesn't disappoint. In my view, CHOCOLATE was the last great Thai martial arts film and everything made since then has been a disappointment, but this B-movie thriller has more of an international flavour and excels in its depiction of non-stop action. The plot sees various heroic types teaming up to tackle a Serbian gangster and his men. Tony Jaa is a Thai cop trying to break up a prostitution racket while Dolph Lundgren has his family massacred and goes on a revenge spree against those responsible. Ron Perlman is the baddie while Michael Jai White also co-stars. It was great to see Peter Weller too as the old police chief. The story might be slim but the pace is very fast and the action offers a good mix of chases, hand-to-hand combat, and shoot-outs. Lundgren and Jaa make a good team and the latter in particular gets to show off his skills in a much better way than in his bit parts in the likes of FAST & FURIOUS 7 and XXX: THE NEXT LEVEL. Sure, there's plenty of camera tricks, wire work, and stunt doubling, but for pure action, SKIN TRADE delivers.

After his family is killed by a Serbian gangster with international interests, NYC detective Nick goes to S.E. Asia and teams up with a Thai detective to get revenge and destroy the syndicates human trafficking network. Skin Trade stars Dolph Lundgren Ron Perlman, Michael Jai White, Peter Weller and Tony Jaa there's a lot of quick action sequences that looked really cool, a lot of action and some good suspense and i was thrilled and enjoyed the movie for what it was a low budget action/thriller with some pretty good performances but don't except anything more and probably the last good Lundgren movie for a long time now.

No spoilers at all here: I rate this movie at a mid 6 for casual fans and as high as a 7 for fans who love this genre. It's not a super high budget movie but it has great action scenes, a simple and easy to follow story, and great acting. I personally bought the movie after renting it first at Redbox. I truly enjoyed it and hope to see these guys make a sequel or star in another movie together. Add it to your watch list if you are an action/martial arts fan. You won't be disappointed. Dolph and Tony Jaa have an epic fight that you need to check out. I am quickly becoming a big fan of Michael Jai White. His acting is good and he is truly a good martial artist. If you are a fan of his, another good one to check out especially if you like Skin Trade would be Falcon Rising.

I am a fan of action movies and this film has some star power in it so I thought I would give it a go. The premise of this film sees a star cop take down a Russian mobster but after losing everything he has to get revenge. Dolph lundgren has done some good films in the past and he is alright in this film. He is pretty good in the action scenes in this film but I felt like his character wasn't developed much in this film. He was the grade b Bryan mills from taken because his relationship with his family wasn't explored so you didn't care about what he was doing. There is an Asian cop that he teams up with and he was really good in the action scenes even though his character development wasn't great. Michael jai white was decent in the film, especially in the action scenes. Now I like the show arrow which has Celina jade in it but she was completely pointless in this film and didn't add anything. But by far the worst performance in this film is ron perlman as the villain. He has a stupid Russian accent and actually disappears in this movie for about an hour and you actually forget about him. The story is a simple revenge film but it just doesn't work. You don't know enough about the characters to care about the situation. Also the actual premise of the film on the IMDb page is literally only the last 20 minutes of this movie and this film sequel bates really really badly. The script is not good with cringeworthy dialogue that really doesn't help the characters at all. The style of the action scenes is pretty great to be honest for the majority of the movie. However, the final confrontation between lundgren and perlman is a shaky cam fest and slow motion that if is impossible to tell what is happening. Overall this is a bad movie that isn't worth a watch.
