Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Stepping into the shoes of Bonita Granville, Pamela Sue Martin, and others who played Carolyn Keene's famous teenage sleuth, Emma Roberts now steps into the role with a nice innocence in her persona that is most refreshing. She and her lawyer father Carson Drew played here by Tate Donovan go to Hollywood for an extended bit. So much so that Nancy is enrolled in some posh Tinseltown high school for the term, her father's business will take that long.Unlike other Nancy Drew incarnations here Carson Drew is not terribly supportive of his daughter's sleuthing ways. He has her promise not to be doing that and just enjoy the movie colony. But Roberts gives a promise that's as good as drunk's promise not to imbibe. How could she resist when she's in the house of a late movie queen who was done in in a still unsolved murder case. Do you doubt that Nancy Drew isn't going to solve it. Let's put her to work on what happened to Thelma Todd?Max Thierot plays her supportive boyfriend Ned Nickerson from the teen novels and there's a nice part for Barry Bostwick as a Hollywood lawyer and powerbroker. Bruce Willis even appears as himself as Roberts crashes one of his sets. This is an enjoyable family film, recommended highly.

Who knew a Nancy Drew adventure could be this dull! Emma Roberts tries her best as the young detective who's fond of 'sleuthing', but the script constantly lets her down. There are a few moments of mild satire scattered throughout, with Nancy presented in a 'fish out of water' scenario, but the whole thing has a boring made-for-TV look. The plot is standard Nancy Drew with a mystery involving an old Hollywood star and a seemingly haunted house. This film is best suited for young girls (around twelve) who will probably identify with Nancy Drew. Adults beware.Overall 4/10

I'm a big fan of Emma Roberts and seen her in many shows and movies before, such as a movie "Aquamarine" and show called "Unfabulous". They were all great shows and movies and I was dead impressed by her performances, they were spectacular, and she put lots of energy in them as well, which is an added bonus. Well done Em.Then I heard about her new movie, "Nancy Drew" and I was surprised to her in the movie, because she is normally plays a young teenage average teenage girl who likes to go shopping and hang out with her friends. But this movie, it changes her personality, she's no longer a normal average teenager, she also likes to solve mysteries and will stop at nothing to uncover the truth. Which is fantastic, because we see two different Emmas here and it's great to see her in some sort of mystery movie. As for me, no fan of the books or Nancy Drew, I thought I could give this movie a try and surprisingly it was a great movie. And her are the reasons why I enjoyed it : The performances were all fabulous, all the cast done their role fluently and you can see they put lots of energy in their role to make this movie worthwhile. But the one that stands out, was Emma Roberts, who surprised us all with her sleuthing and she is still young, but she was the heart of the movie. As for the plot, very good. But I feel a little more action could be delivered, because in some parts of the movie, it's boring. So if the finishing action were 15 minutes longer, it would have been excellent. But overall a great plot, simple and complex, with not too much dialogue or characters, so the well done writers.Overall, a fun movie, with a few twists to keep us entertained. With splendid performances by the cast, it scored hundreds and points for this movie, but a little more action could be added, if there was it could have been excellent. I thought 8 stars was right was the right rating for this movie, because of its brilliance. So once again, well done cast and crew.

There's another viewer who boasted that they'd read all the original books and how Emma roberts was perfect as Nancy Drew etc etc. Well, I too have read all the original stories and I couldn't disagree more. Those stories were very good and I loved Nancy Drew but I always imagined her to be older (say 18/19), more fun and more natural. Instead we get a characters who's 14/15 years old goody two shoes know it all who's somehow more intelligent at crime solving than the police...well that was the case in the stories so I guess I can't really gripe about that fact.I'm sure that the plot was good but Nancy Drew was completely miscast not to mention that the characters were made to be a lot younger so it's kind of hard to take them seriously in this story. emma roberts was a poor choice (she's definitely not a good actress) and on her way to becoming the next anne hathaway (another lame actress in her own right).I really hope that there isn't another nancy drew movie if the same cast and director are used again. It was an utter chore to watch this movie and there was absolutely nothing else interesting on TV at the time (it was either this or watch the HGTV on how to make the perfect drywall).
