It's funny watching the elements come together in this complicated scam. On one hand, the set-up isn't quite as complex as it seems, but there's an easy sense of fun in every exchange.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Aliens create a giant mechanical version of Godzilla, Mechagodzilla, in an effort to destroy Japan. The mechanical creature nearly defeats Godzilla until our rubber- suited hero enlists the help of a fellow Kaiju, the dog-like King Seesar, to defeat the new bionic beast. With the exception of the original films, none of the Godzilla movies are all that serious, but this one seems downright gonzo when the aliens are revealed to be gorilla-like creatures, particularly during one shootout when one of the aliens has half of his human mask removed. What makes or breaks most Godzilla films are the subplots involving the human characters, which if they are boring (as is in most Godzilla films), the movies drag between monster battles, but when the human stories are interesting it makes the film work as a whole. "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" also features a fun jazzy score by Masaru Sato, who scores many films for Akira Kurosawa, and the movie contains plenty of bright colorful Kaiju battles. Overall, this is probably the best of the Godzilla films of the 1970s and is well worth watching for fans of our favorite Japanese monster.

I absolutely love Godzilla, always have always will and this was my first Godzilla film and my favourite. Don't get me wrong I love the original 1954 classic as well as The Return of Godzilla 1984 but this is still the best. The reason, Mechagodzilla makes his first appearance and though we have had at least five different versions of Mechagodzilla this design is still the best.A woman has a prophecy that when a black cloud appears, a huge monster will arrive to destroy the world, however when the sun sets two monsters will appear to fight the evil monster and save the world. Meanwhile Godzilla appears from the mountain and goes on a rampage and absolutely hammers poor Anguirus in a brutal and bloody fight. From there Godzilla wreaks havoc on the power plant and it is from here we understand that this Godzilla is not what he seems. Sure enough the real Godzilla appears and fights with the imposter who then transforms to Mechagodzilla controlled by aliens from outer space. Both Godzilla and Mechagodzilla shoot their beams at each other and basically knock each other out big time. Godzilla is thought to be dead because of the heavy blood loss while Mechagodzilla's mechanics are damaged and needs to be fixed. I won't carry on if you haven't seen it but rest assured the finale is brilliant. As mentioned this is my favourite of all Godzilla movies, not only is it action packed, the human side story is engaging and the aliens (which we later find out are apes) are menacing. Also Mechagodzilla to me is easily Godzilla's most powerful foe (sorry King Ghidorah) and the finale will have you covering your eyes in horror as you will think that Godzilla will meet his end.If you enjoy this, I recommend you watch the sequel Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Apelike aliens build a robotic Godzilla to destroy Japan, and the true Godzilla may not be powerful enough to destroy the mechanical monster. Now, you know, there is going to be a certain level of cheese to this film as there is with any Godzilla film. You have men in suits rolling around. And here you have the added factor of the ape aliens (though a far more interesting alien race than the ones associated with King Ghidorah). And yet, this is solid directing and a decent plot, which is much needed after the terrible distraction of Godzilla's alleged son Minya in recent chapters. Some parts of this even come across like an espionage thriller in comparison.

14th Godzilla picture once again(!) brings in more aliens(intelligent apes disguised as humans, seemingly inspired by the "Planet Of The Apes" films...) who plan to take over the world by building a giant robot version of Godzilla called MechaGodzilla to fight and destroy the real one. Meanwhile, a local legend about a giant lion-like monster called King Caesar seems to be coming true, which is good news for Godzilla, who needs all the help he can get. A bit of imagination here, and nice change of locale, but otherwise this is still quite ridiculous and uninspired, not to mention tacky. Poor Godzilla had seen much better days!
