I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.

This film has more corn than Kansas and plenty of BS to fertilise it with. It starts out with a fair to middling hijack story, and then develops into a gung-ho shoot-fest of epically dreadful proportions. This from someone who enjoys the Expendables movies. The difference is: they don't try to take themselves too seriously, and the action is much better- if equally unbelievable.US Special Forces armed almost exclusively with Uzi machine pistols, shooting from the hip in spray and pray fashion just got my goat time and time again. The dramatic manoeuvres such as pulling wheelies on motorcycles just left me wondering why would you bother? To risk losing control in a life and death situation might look cool, but you just wouldn't. Standing around in the middle of the road, facing an army of bad guys? Seriously? And as for the major running off on his own to face the chief hijacker with the instruction "don t wait for me". Get outta town. As for going OFF the radio before assaulting the aircraft. What? It leads to some drama in the form of Lee Marvin and his screaming siren, but surely you just wouldn't. The music alternatively sounds like it's appropriate for an awards ceremony and a kids' sci-fi movie and is definitely no John Williams score. It just serves to highlight how bad the movie is.I probably saw this when it came out in 1986. That was clearly long enough for me to forget how awful it is. I stopped really watching it part way through, and switched it off before the end. I can't really say why I have given it two stars. I'm not sure that it deserves one.

A 707 aircraft jetliner on its way from Athens to Rome and then to New York City is hijacked by Lebanese terrorists. The terrorists demand that the pilot take them to Beirut. What the terrorists don't realize is that an elite team of commandoes led by Major McCoy (Norris) and by Colonel Alexander (Marvin) as been called into service to eliminate all terrorists on the jetliner and who's involved in the hijacking and try to retake the plane before the terrorists kill all the hostages. The Delta Force is a film that 80's Action Fans will definitely enjoy and although it starts pretty slow and full with tension inside an aircraft and don't get me wrong both the 2nd and 3rd act were pretty great but i think the 1st act built a lot of tension and had some pretty good moments but overall this is a great film with nice performances by Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, Robert Forster and George Kennedy, the soundtrack by Alan Silvestri is terrific and something that i can listen all day and the action itself was pretty excellent especially the sequences with Chuck Norris riding the motorcycle and in my opinion it was a pretty great film and i'm going to give it an A

Delta Force meets Police Academy. I haven't seen anything this bad since Top Gun. I won't elaborate, but the Delta Force units don't work that way and were clothing like that. Matter of fact you wouldn't even know a Delta Force member if you saw him. They are not Rambo types, but men that are highly trained and their major asset to the Delta Force's are that they can think on their feet. No frontal assaults or lone wolf types. They work as a team and if all goes well, you won't even know that they were there, until you notice that you have been burned.The film was a joke and a dishonor to the men that actually died in the crap they tried to depict in the 80's.

At first, I had to remind myself that I was watching a Cannon movie. After all, this studio were notorious for making some of the cheesiest, over the top action romps of the 1980s, and THE DELTA FORCE is nothing of the kind. Instead, it's a taut and suspenseful aeroplane hostage movie that has more in common with the likes of RAID ON ENTEBBE than INVASION USA.THE DELTA FORCE stars a near unrecognisable Robert Forster (complete with brown contacts) as an Arab terrorist who holds a group of wealthy Jews hostage in a politically motivated act of terrorism. In a throwback to the disaster movies of the '70s, the hostages are played by an all-star cast including George Kennedy, Martin Balsam, Bo Svenson, Shelley Winters, Joey Bishop and Susan Strasberg. The stuff on the plane is fantastic, with the threat of violence hanging heavy in the air and lots of tense stand-offs.Then things change completely for the film's second hour, where it becomes the kind of cheesy action romp that you expected from the outset. This second half is full of Chuck Norris and his team (including a grumpy Lee Marvin and a briefly-seen Steve James) shooting bad guys, blowing stuff up and rescuing people. It's the sort of action that contains motorbikes fitted with rocket launchers and all manner of similar nonsense. That's not to say it's not entertaining, but it is at odds with the serious first half of the film. Norris and Norris alone would return for the equally cheesy sequel.
