This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Some films are hit and miss. With the film The Invisible there are more misses than there were hits. The acting by the main characters is decent as is the cinematography and musical score. What is grossly lacking though is in the storyline. I found the script to be weak and so the audience has a hard time hanging in waiting for a good ending. Instead the ending (without giving it away) is oh so typical that I ended up saying at the film's end....really? You have got to be kidding. The last 30 minutes concentrated on having the two main actors Justin Chatwin who plays Nick Powell (who is the deceased victim who miraculously comes back to life as a supernatural being whispering in his co-stars ear) and Margarita Levieva who plays the confused and volatile Annie Newton whose goal is to bring Nick Powell back from the dead before time runs out.Unfortunately time does not run out soon enough for this moviegoer who watched the film go downhill to the bitter end. Not the greatest mystery, suspense, dramatic film. I rate the picture a 4 out of 10 for the actors trying to make something out of a story line that was weak. I also suggest you pass on this one.

I have looked over the reviews, and honestly can not understand where the hate is coming from. It certainly was not referring to the production values, all of which were fine, the film was well photographed, edited, acted and directed. It could not have been against the telling of the story, It is well told and clear. I could see those expecting a horror story would be disappointed, but the degree of hatred in the reviews boggles my mind. Those who call it boring are wrong. It is not in any way boring. Those who call it poorly acted are wrong. It is well acted and written. I figure that what must gall those critics is the concept, that there are many faces that we choose. That those who act evil may upon deeper examination, have redeeming features, and that the masks we wear cover a universal common bond. That a good deed may counter a lifetime of mistakes. These are the messages I got from this movie. Uplifting movies do not seem to be in fashion. If you have been dissuaded from watching it by the negative remarks, that's a shame. This is really a much better picture then they portray it to be. It's worthy of your time.

You think ghost movie and immediately images of an old house on a ruined yard, maybe off the regular path, comes to mind. Sometimes, you get the misfortune of having to deal with a sinister slobbering monster or a phantom serial killer who irrationally and illogically goes around killing the cast. "The Invisible" actually takes more of its cue from "The Lovely Bones," as a high school student plots to escape his neglectful mother and travel the world, but before that happens, he's picked off by his school's resident problem child and his body is dumped in a storm drain in the woods. That's where the movie picks up. The youth learns that while his body stays hovering near death that his body can watch and perceive the events of his murder investigation, but unlike real ghosts, he can't talk to or communicate with the living. Taking another cue from "The Sixth Sense," his actions on the spirit plane turn out to be illusions and don't manifest in the real world. Where is a psychic when you need one? Regardless of this limited premise, the film carries through the investigation of his disappearance and the enlightenment of both his character and that of his female antagonist. The action is picked up when the urge to find his body is motivated by its relocation to the local dam where it will be forever lost. It's a fast-paced engrossing movie with a compelling storyline accentuated with strong performances and few special effects, proving that Hollywood can turn out a decent movie about ghosts when it really tries.

I haven't seen the original film, and I kind of don't want to. The atmosphere, the talent, and the presentation are just perfect. If there's one thing I don't like, it's Marcia Gay Harden. I just can't sympathize with her character at all, even though I do like her. I think it's because we never get to see Nick and his mom talk about his internship, and therefore why she so adamantly says no.I love the three main characters to death. Justin Chatwin is a great protagonist, Chris Marquette is excellent as a flaky best friend, and Margarita Levieva is all sorts of beautiful. I think she's one of the main reasons I can watch this movie over and over without growing tired of it, because there's always something in her role that I've missed. I can't recommend this movie enough.
