It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

After the death of his parents during WW2, the young Hannibal goes to live with his rich and beautiful Japanese aunt in Paris, and there begins to plan how to take revenge on the men who killed his younger sister. The movie suggests that Hannibal's trauma began here when he watched the soldiers kill, cook and eat his sister, which, as I recall, goes against what was said in one of the other films: that it was not possible to classify Hannibal neither as a psychopath nor as a sociopath precisely because there is no identifiable trauma, being just pure evil, or am I confused? The film is very mediocre and was only made to steal the last dollars of the unwary who still follow the franchise. In this movie, in addition to becoming a doctor and a cannibal (as everyone knows), he also learns to be a ninja from his aunt. Yeah, you read that right, Hannibal is also a ninja.Oh well... I'll just rewatch "The Silence of the Lambs" and pretend the rest of the franchise does not exist.

I have been a fan of Hannibal franchise and after watching this which was released on 2007 which I had no clue until now, I loved the young Hannibal. we had watched movies and series about Hannibal but we had no clue why he turned up like that but his movie gives the idea about his tough life as a child and how he faced it to become what he is now. Loved everyone here as the acting was solid. It is totally worth the watch if you haven't watched it yet.

... Firt off, never ever "not" watch a movie because, of ratings. So many times I have found delight in movies that I passed up because of other people. This will be the review you want. This movie got bad ratings because, of acting, drawn out, and because, people felt a classic should not have a prequel..Sorry, they could not be more than wrong about this. This movie has that grotesque "it" factor that any Hannibal movie goer dreams of. Not only that it has war, blood, guts, tells the story in a GREAT pace! You could not ask for a better prequel. The acting that Gaspard Ulliel shows off is one in a million. Just like rain man their could not be a better person to do this film. He is a psychopath, of course he is going to act weird and disturbed. From the opening to the constant nightmares, to the drug induced dreams to over come his flashbacks, and to the revenge of deaths at the hand of a mastermind. Its simply fantastic pace. The dirty grim-my Germany and France scenes are Amazing coming from an American with such movies as Saving Private Ryan or Apocalypse Now... Think of this movie as a war ridden "NO MANS LAND" with a touch of intellectual landscape. Each scene has its stay and not one feels like it is out of touch. The music is rich with the original silence of the lambs and fits again with the landscape of post war living. .. Watch. This. Movie! I cannot say much more about that. Have fun and remember movies are a way for us to escape to be someone we are not just for a few minutes of our lives. Enjoy 9/10 stars!

The success of Silence of The Lambs was unexpected. What Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins achieved with that film surpassed all expectations. It prompted Thomas Harris to write more books and this film serves as a prequel to provide the back story of how Hannibal became the cannibal. The premise is that he is traumatised as a young boy from being imprisoned during the war where his young sister is feasted on by his captives. An older Hannibal seeks revenge on his former captives and gains this in numerous sadistic ways. The plot is weak, the acting mediocre and overall, this film lacks any sense. Rather than watching Hannibals feasting on humans, you are best off avoiding this film and dining out in style!
