Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

No one is chronicling New York elites both real & perceived than Noah Baumbach. In his new film, we have the Meyerowitz' three half siblings under the cruel yet absent parentage of a once great artist (at least he thought he was great) as they now are becoming parents & we wait w/baited breath if the same mistakes will be made. That's the rub I suppose since the family members are in constant conversation yet nothing is actually is being communicated is a fascinating, yet frustrating aspect of this clan. Probably Baumbach's nearest contemporary is Wes Anderson who also tells tales of fractured geniuses trying to cope in a world that doesn't understand them or wants to. If you go along for the ride, which truth be told, isn't for everybody, you'll laugh hardheartedly while shaking your head at the dunderheadedness on display.

This movie has some really unusual story-telling. The entire movie unfolds through conversations, so there is lots of it, with tons of hidden meanings and fine print. Some relationships are overtly shown but a lot is hidden behind a barrage of dialogue, so reruns could be fun.Excellent acting by Adam Sandler. A star off for deviating from reality at the end, which the director was so successful at doing throughout the movie.

I only gave this movie a 2 instead of a 1 because Dustin Hoffman is still such a great actor at the age of 80. He is in top form.Sandler and Still are good too but the story is disjointed and often times not believable, most of all about 20 minutes in when the director gets one of the young actresses naked and gets her to curse repeatedly in a sexual way.Not sure if Noah Baumbach did so for his own amusement, enjoyment or if this was a desperate attempt at sensational shock value but it made me want to throw up.What a cheap way to ruin a movie.

The Meyerowitz Stories(New and Selected): Written and Directed by Noam Baumbach.Netflix really promoted this movie hardcore. They made it seem entertaining and it appeared to be a good time. I was wrong. This is a movie that it is all about the characters. You have to either find the characters amusing or find a connection with what they're going through in their lives, you might be interested in this ride. However if you find the characters to be insufferable much like I did, this will be painful to sit through.I can't fault the actors for this movie. They do a good choice bringing these characters to life and I have to admit that I have seen no other movies by this particular director. I might have brought this upon myself. This is a movie that lives inside this rich upper class composed of selfish and messed up artists. This reminded me of The Royal Tenenbaums but nowhere near as stylized. It is based around this overbearing father figure who is a teacher and an artist. He expects everyone in the movie to be focused on him and his life. If you met someone like this in real life, you would run screaming away from them immediately. It felt like that while I was watching it.This is another movie that just sort of meanders and it just ends. I think this might be a series of stories about this family from a bunch of different people's perspectives. You have to be on board with these characters. Again as I mentioned previously, I was not. I chuckled a bit at the extremely pornographic movies the teenage daughter of Adam Sandler distributed to her family. It does poke fun at snooty pretentious artist type who only care about the attention but it's not enough to make this a good film. I give this movie a D.
