it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Easily the biggest piece of Right wing non sense propaganda I ever saw.

Look, the original Heavy Metal isn't exactly a masterpiece. But it knew what it was, and kept things interesting through animation, music, variety, and lack of restraint. It was a homage to the most stereotypical tropes of the genre, even satire. Heavy Metal 2000 is legitimately a stereotypical "metal" film.Heavy Metal 2000 is essentially the final short of Heavy Metal extended. It shows why Heavy Metal was split into shorts to begin with. The story is predictable and the characters are flat. There is a lot more violence and sex in this film than the typical sci-fi story, but you have no investment to those involved, and its not over-the-top enough to be awesome or funny. To put it bluntly - Heavy Metal 2000 is a boring film, with no identity.Heavy Metal 2000 also suffers in artistic production. The backgrounds are sometimes nice...but there is sooooo much brown and gray! Its a gritty, ugly film. The characters...how do I put this...seem too soft? There is too little detail to them, especially noticeable in close-ups. And we can't forget about the bad CGI. The smoke and fire effects look like they were added in 5 minutes.I'm more of a power metal guy, so I can't say how good the music is. But I've seen no defenders of this film's soundtrack.Heavy Metal 2000 is awful. Only fans of the sleazy should give it a chance. It fails on every mark. Dull, stupid, and unaware, don't be fooled by the Heavy Metal name.

An ordinary space miner named Tyler touches a shard of a glowing rock that gives him a hunger for power and a thirst for immortality. He attacks a space colony, Eden, to kill people and collect survivors who have a precious substance in their blood. Unfortunately for Tyler, he kidnapped Kerrie, but left alive her sister Julie. Germain was in his crew, but when Germain tries to protect Kerrie, Tyler leaves Germain behind.Julie dragoons Germain, and they follow Tyler on his journey to a jump point. They hitch a ride just before Tyler's ship enters the wormhole (the 'jump point'). Tyler tries to kill them. The results are really bad for both ships. They crash on a nearby planet where Julie meets Odin and his rock-like assistant. Odin is in search of the 'Key' (the glowing rock) which Julie is oblivious to.Tyler becomes leader of a local race of lizard people. He searches for the pool of the pure substance that will give him immortality. Odin leads Julie to Tyler's ship, where she rescues Kerrie. They go back to the city that protects the pool and the chamber of immortality. Will Julie and her new friends be able to protect the city from the lizard horde? Will they keep Tyler from his goal? -----Scores------Art/Animation: 6/10 Varies from barely competent to good. It seems a bit weak for a film made around 2000. Also, the use of mixed productions modes (some flat, some hand drawn, some done by export of 3d modeling) is rather distracting.Sound: 8/10 The sound levels might have been a bit better balanced. The metal background music seemed to be kept too low compared to the sound levels for gunfire, explosions and voices.Voice: 10/10 Michael Ironside, Julie Strain, Billy Idol, and Pier Paquette were all fine.Screenplay: 7/10 The twin quests for revenge and for immortality move the story right along. However, the story lacks the powerful heart and heroism of the first film.

When Heavy Metal (1981) came to theaters, it was at the peak of popularity, riding in on the coat tails of famous rock bands and solo musicians. It is the whole element that propelled it into theaters - it showcased a lot of the successful songs that various artists had had come out with at the time. Adding to that was its unique style of animation, music, foul-mouthed characters and hard carnage. It was such a success that it gained no only a cult following, but even a Direct-to- DVD sequel almost two decades later. Unfortunately, the original did not interest me at all. I loved the animation and music but it lacked a convincing narrative. In this sequel, it has a couple of things that make it better but it doesn't amount to much overall. One of the better features about this movie is that it at least follows one specific character instead of just giving its audience a compilation of meaningless ones like the first film. After seeing her hometown destroyed by a mad man who desires to be immortal, Julie decides to travel on a quest for revenge. And as coincidental as it may seem, the mad man was only made crazy once he touched green glowing object. Why do these two films obsess over green glowing objects? The other coincidental thing is that Julie will fill the role of the silent female swordsman from the first film (in the last story told by the green glowing orb). Of course this is never explained at all by any of the writers. I'm glad the writers set a main character for the audience, but the reasoning behind various plot points are left unresolved making it question after question. The voice-cast is always appreciated. Michael Ironside provides his villainous voice for Tyler (the mad man) while Julie Strain (a playboy model / actress) lends her voice to main female lead Julie. It is interesting though that it seems like the character of Julie was modeled after Strain herself, both look very similar. The musical score aspect of the film was well crafted too. Composer Frédéric Talgorn actually made the score sound very similar to Elmer Bernstein's rendition of the first movie. But again, because this is a rock related film, there is going to be rock music. Of course, this time though it'll be in the death metal genre - which is fine if you (the viewer) are into that kind of thing. But if not, and you're looking for the classic 80s rock, that won't be here. Either way, like both films, it did not enhance their performance. The hand drawn animation (along with carnage) was done well and in some scenes it even contained CGI. However, the CGI used in this, is fairly weak and doesn't blend well with its 2D counterparts. Sure, it reminisces to the CGI used in the films like Spawn (1997), but that at least mixed well together with its surroundings. Going back to the writing though, it's a step in the right direction by finally giving an actual plot but there are still several places in the writing that isn't expanded upon. Even the characters are not given much of a back story to rely on. A long with that are unexplained character motivations which gives its audience no reasoning to why characters did what they did. There's more work to be done here. The sequel to the animation cult classic of the early 1980's improves on a character basis, but its writing is still missing sections of what constitutes as a good narrative. The animation and music is respectable but that's it.

Heavy Metal 2000 is the sequel to the 1981 animated-anthology film "Heavy Metal".The original Heavy Metal was a great film.It combined humor, graphic violence, sex and interesting sci-fi storyline. It was an excellent animated film and it never gets old.Being a fan of the old one, I watched the sequel as well. The sequel is fairly different from the original. While the original was told in anthology form, this one is not.I have not seen this movie in a while so I do not remember the plot that much.It is actually a bit like the final story of the original "Heavy Metal".The animation is good, the same kind as featured in the film "Titan A.E", there are a few good songs, but the soundtrack is nowhere near as good as the original film, the violence and sex are still there.Overall, it's a decent film but nowhere near as good as the first film.
